Abstract

A typewriter case, adapted to be disposed on or fixed to a desk, has a front wall adapted to be slid under its top wall, and has the typewriter mounted for sliding out from, and return to, the case through the so opened front of the case. The typewriter is carried by a carriage secured to the case by extensible means and the carriage is provided with rollers which may be retracted for stabilizing the support of the typewriter when extended.

sum 2 OF 2 INVENTOR TYPEWRITER CASE The invention is concerned with a typewriter case, in particular for a portable typewriter.

With typewriters, in particular portable typewriters, one meets the problem that the use of the case entrains inconveniences; after use the typewriter has to be put back in the case and put aside; in general, the case cannot be left on the desk, since it occupies useful area.

In the prior art a typewriter case has been described, which can be left on the desk and of which the cover is the front wall adapted to be swung down. After having swung down the front wall, the typewriter can be pulled forward out of the case. Guides have been provided in the said cover, which in downward position, constitute extensions of guides fixedly provided in the case. However, as the height of the typewriter case is limited, these guides in the cover are also limited. In order, to return the typewriter in the case, this device is incon venient, since the typewriter has to be lifted each time. Also, the cover has to be closed after the typewriter has been used and put back, as the cover needlessly occupies useful area on the desk.

An object of the invention is to provide a typewriter case which does not show these objections.

In accordance with the invention, the typewriter case is characterized by a housing including a baseplate, sidewalls and a rear wall, fixedly secured to the baseplate, a top plate disposed on top of the said walls and a removable front wall, the typewriter being adapted to be moved by means of rolling means.

Preferably, the front wall is adapted to be slid under the top plate by means of guides.

Also, the typewriter can be disposed on a carriage adapted to be rolled in and out the case. The typewriter or carriage can be connected to the case through an extensible connecting means.

For instance, the case can be secured to the desk top with the aid of clamps.

For the sake of ease, when typewriting, the rolling-means can be adapted to be locked or retracted, whereby, the typewriter or carriage is supported on usual rubber blocks.

It should be noted that a typewriter desk is known from the prior art which has also a case into which the typewriter is adapted to be slid, the case being provided with a cover adapted to be swung down and with the aid of which simultaneously, when opening or closing the box, the typewriter is moved out of or into the box respectively. Therewith, the cover, when swung open, serves as table for the typewriter. However, such a structure is inconvenient for .a portable typewriter, since the case has to be made unproportionally large. Furthermore, in this known embodiment the box cannot be put freely on a table top because of levers extending below the bottom of the box.

The invention will now be more fully described referring to the accompanying drawings in which a preferred embodiment is shown.

FIG. 1 shows a longitudinal section through a case designed in accordance with the invention, in the case being disposed a carriage mounted on rollers, the carriage being connected to the case through an extendible connecting means.

FIG. 2-shows a front view of the typewriter case shown in FIG. 1 in closed condition.

FIG. 3 shows the typewriter case placed on a desk top with the carriage in extended position and a typewriter disposed thereon.

The carriage 4 is connected to at least one of the sidewalls of casin 1 with the aid of an extensible connecting means 6, and pre erably to both sidewalls. Theconnecting point of the to a desk top 15 with the aid ofa clamp 14. This is shown in FIG. 3.

The cover 10 may be secured'to the baseplate 2 with the aid of a locking means 12, or the like.

Naturally, where necessary or desired, protective rubber studs can be provided to prevent damages of the caseand typewriter. An extensible connecting means can be omitted or the one shown in the drawings may be replaced by for instance a telescopic connecting means.

Many alterations are possible. For instance, in FIG. 1 and 3, the rollers are connected to the carriage 4, but they can be connected directly to the baseplate of the typewriter. These rollers may or may not be adapted to be locked, or retracted.

, In the latter case, to the lower face of the case will be provided rubber blocks to support the carriage, when the rollers are retracted.

The operation of a typewriter case constructed in accordance with the invention is obvious after the previous description. The case is disposed either fixedly or not to a desk and, if the typewriter is to be used, the cover 10 is slid under the top plate of casing l and the typewriter can be pulled out of the case with one finger. To that effect baseplate 2 can be beveled at the open end. After use, the typewriter is slid back into the case and the area of the desk previously occupied by the typewriter may be used for other purposes. The total area of the desk top is substantially fully utilized, as the case may be left in place, and the top plate substantially replaces the area occupied by the case on the desk top. Any loss of area corresponds with the projection of the cover 10 on the table top. However, this cover can be made steep, so that this loss of area is negligible.

I claim:

1. A typewriter case, in particular for a portable typewriter, said case comprising, in combination:

a. a housing including 1. a baseplate for resting on a table top,

2. sidewalls and a rear wall secured to said baseplate, 3. a top plate disposed on the top of said walls, and 4. a removable front wall;

b. said housing being provided with means for fixing it to the table top,

c. a carriage for the typewriter, said carriage being provided with rolling means for rolling the carriage into and out of said housing through the front thereof when opened;

d. said carriage being connected to said housing through an extensible connecting means formed to enable rolling of said carriage into and out of said housing; and

e. said carriage being provided with means to secure it against movement when the typewriter has been positioned for use by extending said extensible connecting means.

2. A typewriter case as claimed in claim 1, in which means is provided by which said front wall may he slid under said top plate when opened, said last named means comprising guide means carried by said housing below said top plate and pin means carried by said front wall and engaging in said guide means.

Claims

1. A typewriter case, in particular for a portable typewriter, said case comprising, in combination: a. a housing including 1. a baseplate for resting on a table top, 2. sidewalls and a rear wall secured to said baseplate, 3. a top plate disposed on the top of said walls, and 4. a removable front wall; b. said housing being provided with means for fixing it to the table top, c. a carriage for the typewriter, said carriage being provided with rolling means for rolling the carriage into and out of said housing through the front thereof when opened; d. said carriage being connected to said housing through an extensible connecting means formed to enable rolling of said carriage into and out of said housing; and e. said carriage being provided with means to secure it against movement when the typewriter has been positioned for use by extending said extensible connecting means.

2. A typewriter case as claimed in claim 1, in which means is provided by which said front wall may be slid under said top plate when opened, said last named means comprising guide means carried by said housing below said top plate and pin means carried by said front wall and engaging in said guide means.
