This invention consists of a strip of thin flexible foil-like material having a silver, gold, or any other desired finish. The aforesaid strip of material is provided with a plurality of spaced members extending at right angle to the strip of material, each member having a recess in each longitudinal edge thereof; and a plurality of stars or other configurated members having an opening therein for the reception of the aforesaid members. The members are adapted to hold the stars or other configurations on the aforesaid strip of material which is then placed on the Christmas tree or the like as a decoration.

INVENTOR BERNHARD R. LANDWEHR CHRISTMAS TREE GARLANDS F FLEXIBLE STRIP MATERIAL WITH ATTACHED STAR ELEMENTS AND METHOD OF ASSEMBLY This invention relates to garlands; more particularly, to a garland adapted to decorate Christmas trees or the like; still more particularly, to a garland having a plurality of spaced configurations of stars or any other desired object.
It is the principal object of this invention to provide a garland for Christmas trees and the like that has a plurality of spaced stars extending outward therefrom in a novel and eyecatching manner.
Another object of this invention is to provide a garland for Christmas trees and the like, the garland and its stars reflecting light in a pleasing manner as air moves the garland and its connected stars.
Still another object of this invention is to provide a garland for Christmas trees and the like that has easily changeable members of any desired configuration or color that will move in the least bit of a breeze to provide a pleasing effect to the decorated tree.
Other and further objects and advantages of this novel invention will appear as the reading of this specification and its appended claims proceeds and the accompanying drawing is examined in connection therewith.

FIG. 4 is a pictorial exploded view of an enlarged portion of the garland and one of its protrusions and a star shaped member about to be assembled on the aforesaid protrusion. Only a portion of one point of the star is shown in this view.
In the several views of the accompanying drawing, like parts of the invention are indicated by like reference numbers. The reference number 5 indicates this invention in its entirety.
Directing ones attention first to FIG. I of the accompanying drawing it will be seen that this invention embodies a strip of thin flexible material 6 having a plurality of equally spaced and parallel members 7 extending at right angles therefrom. The aforesaid members 7 are integrally formed with the aforesaid strip 6. Each aforesaid member 7 has a recess 8 in each longitudinal edge thereof, as is clearly shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 of the drawing. A star 9, or other configurated member, is provided with an opening 10 through which the end 11 of one of the aforesaid parallel members 7 is placed after the member has been bent or otherwise curved, as is illustrated in FIG. 4. The curving of the member is necessary so that the member may be placed in the opening 10 of the star 9 since the diameter of the opening is less than the width of the aforesaid end 11 of member 7. After the star or its equivalent has been placed on the end of the often mentioned member 7, the end 11 of the member is then flattened out again, thus preventing the star from falling off the member. The two recesses 8 in member 7 will actually catch the star inside the periphery of the aforesaid opening 10, thereby preventing the star from sliding on the member up to the strip 6. This unique construction will provide a new and novel way of attaching the stars to the strip 6 so that the stars will swing freely about the members 7 as moving air strikes either the stars or the Christmas tree on which the garland is placed.
It will be noted on examination of FIGS. 1 and 3 of the accompanying drawing that the lower edge 12 of the aforesaid flexible strip 6 is concaved between each aforesaid member 7. The purpose of this configuration of the edge is to provide extra strength to the garland and to add to its novel beauty.
This garland I have invented can be made in any desired size, of any desired material, and in any color and/or combination of colors one may see fit to use. The means of attaching any other configurated members that may replace the stars is the same as I have described for the stars.
What I now claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A garland for Christmas trees, comprising a thin flat strip of flexible material, a plurality of integrally formed members projecting from one edge of said strip of material, said members extending in parallel spaced relation to each other and at right angle to said strip of material, that edge of said strip of material from which the said members project being concaved between adjacent members, a plurality of stars of the same material as said strip and means attaching said stars to said members which means permits said stars to swing about, said attaching means comprising a circular opening extending through each star, each said member having a central portion extending through said opening in a star, and an enlarged outer end which is larger than the opening in the star.
2. The invention of claim 1, wherein said central portion of each member has opposed recesses proportioned to receive the periphery of the opening in a star to prevent the star from moving along said member.
3. The method of assembling star elements on projecting parallel elements of flexible material, said projecting parallel elements having enlarged outer ends, which method comprises bending the enlarged outer end of each parallel element into a curve that will pass through a circular opening in a star, passing each said bent outer end through said opening in a corresponding star, and flattening said outer ends again to prevent said stars from slipping off the ends of said members.
