Abstract
Characters each identified by a bit code are advanced serially to a memory comprising continuously cycling shift registers, one for each bit of the code. The bits for each character enter the shift registers in parallel. The character codes are placed one behind the other in the shift register memory by operation of a character counter and a second counter which is its complement.
