Primary Examiner-Aldrich F. Medbery  ABSTRACT A surgical instrument for clamping the prepuce during the operation of circumcision has a finger operated sliding prepuce engaging and stretching hooks on leg of a U-shaped frame and a scissor-like clamp on the outer leg for securing the prepuce during the operation.

It is the general object of this instrument to provide an instrument for circumferentially clamping the prepuce quickly and efficiently with littleor no loss of blood and whereby a neat incision can easily be made.
edge and a sharp front edge which is in contact when the blades are in a closed position. There is a semicircular hole at the sharp edge of each blade. When both blades are approximated or closed for contact this hole forms a complete circle around the end of limb 2. Both blades touch the limb 2 just behind the funnel c.
Each blade carries a finger ring as 8 and 9 on one end An important object of this clamp is avoiding injury of the glans penis during cutting the prepuce.
Another object of the invention is to secure perfect hemostasis after severing the prepuce.
A further object of the invention is a nice clean cut of the prepuce leaving no irregularities or skin tags at the line of the incision.
Still another object of the invention is that it can be a applied to all age groups.
'\Vith the above and other incidental objects in view, the invention has other marked improvements and superiorities which radically distinguish same from presently known instruments usedfor circumcision. These improvements and superior characteristics embodying certain novel features are clearly set forth in the appended claim and the preferred embodiment of the invention hereinafter shown with reference to the accompanying drawings forming partof the specification.

My instrument can be made of stainless steel or any other suitable alloy and it consists of three main parts:
I A U-shaped rodhaving three legs or limbs: l, 2, 3. The end of the limb 3 is threaded and serves as a fulcrum around which two clamping blades 4 and 5 move. The end of the limb 2is also-threaded to fit inside one of a series'of funnel-shaped cups C of different sizes which have the following diameters in succession: k, l, and 1 /4 inches. At the junction of the two limbs 1 and 2 is a finger ring 6.
II A cylindrical moving barrel 14 which can move or slide to and fro on the limb 2. It carries three prepuce tissue engaging hooks 17 at its front end and two finger rings 15 and 16 are attached to its hind end.
III Two blades 4 and 5 each having one flat surface and the other is bevelled. Each bladehas a dull back and a latch means which can lock the two blades together when the instrument is in the closed position and the sharp edges of the two blades will be just touching each other. The other end of each blade is circular in shape and it has a circular hole in its center into which fits the threaded end 12 of the limb 3. Two washers 9 and 10 together witha nut 11, are screwed onto the threaded-end of the limb 3 after inserting the two blades 4 and 5, thus securing them in place and at the same time allowing a joint movement similar to a pair of scissors'The operation of the instrument is as follows: The blades 4 and 5 are opened, the cup C is placed-on the end of the glans penis, the barrel 14 is -moved on the leg 2 until it touches the end of cup C,
the prepuce is moved over the cup C and hooked on the hooks 17, the barrel 14 is moved back by finger pressure on finger rings 6, 15 and 16, the blades 4 and 5 are closed by squeezing finger pressure on rings 7 and 8 until they meet in a clamping embrace around the prepuce and leg 2 and are held in position by latch means 13. The operation is then performed.
Having described my invention, what I claim is:
1. A circumcision instrument comprising a U-shaped body member having a finger ring attached to the bight portion of one leg and a funnel shaped cup reniovably mounted on the other end of said one leg, a cylindrical barrel member is slidably mounted intermediately on said one leg and includes a plurality of prepuce tissue engaging hooks on a first end and a pair of finger rings on a second end, a pair of clamping blades are pivotally mounted at one of their ends on the distal end of an other leg of said U-shaped body member, each blade having a finger ring on a second end and opposing sharp edges with a mating semi-circular hole located intermediate the ends of said blades, a latch type securing means is mounted on the blades adjacent each fing'er ring for holding the sharp edges of the blades close to each other, whereby the prepuce tissue engaging hooks are moved to stretch the prepuce tissue and the clamping blades secure it to the said one 'leg.
