Heretofore, there has been a need for open wire collapsible framework upon which an inverted V-shaped sign carrying a message may be easily mounted and anchored and which, when not in use, may be collapsed into a compact unit with the base and frame elements in parallel.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION It is an object of the present invention to provide an improved open wire sign display stand which includes a base and a pair of open wire frame elements with one frame element pivotally connected to the base at one side and at its other side being pivotally connected to the other frame element, so that the free end of the other frame element may be removably positioned with respect to the base for use as a sign supporting member, and can be disconnected therefrom with the base and frame elements collapsed into parallel relationship.
These and other objects will be seen from the following specification and claims in conjunction with the appended drawing.
THE DRAWING FIG. 1 is a front elevational view of the present sign display stand; 4
FIG. 2 is a left end elevational view thereof in a use position and with an inverted V-shaped sign mounted thereon;
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the sign on a reduced scale.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION Referring to the drawing, the present collapsible sign display stand 11 includes a base mountable upon a support S and includes a pair of parallel spaced base plates 13 apertured intermediate their ends at 15 adapted to receive fasteners 17 for anchoring to said support.
Reverse turned scroll-type stops l9 and 21 are formed at the respective ends of said base plates. Parallel spaced transverse spanners 23 made of wire interconnect said base plates adjacent their stops and are welded thereto as at 25, FIG. 2.
Mounted upon said base is a hollow wire A-frame 27 which includes U-shaped rear frame 29 and U-shaped front frame 31. Base 33 of the rear frame bears upon and spans base plates 13 adjacent the rear stops l9, and the respective sides 35 extend upwardly and mount at their upper ends the horizontally disposed elongated sign support plate 37 welded thereto at points 39, FIGS. 1 and 2.
The base 41 of front frame 31 bears upon and spans front end portions of said base plates loosely between the corresponding front stops 21 and the adjacent spanner 23. The respective sides 43 of the front frame at their free ends have pivot loops 45 formed thereon which pivotally extend through corresponding apertures 47 adjacent the ends of the sign support plate.
Wire cross bars 49 interconnect the legs of each of said frames spaced from but adjacent the respective bases thereof. Upright stop bars 51 interconnect the respective bases and cross bar of each frame, are suitably secured thereto as by welding and are spaced inwardly of the corresponding legs as well as adjacent to and inwardly of the corresponding stops for proper spacing of the A-frame elements upon said base.
The sign support plate 37 is adapted to receive the apex of the inverted V-shaped sign 53 which has suitable indicia thereon as at 55, FIG. 3. The lower ends of said sign are frictionally and retainingly engaged between outer lower portions of the respective frames and the corresponding adjacent stops 19 and 21. FIG. 2.
The pivot mounting of the rear frame with respect to the base plates includes a pair of formed rearwardly extending open clips 61 anchored at 63 adjacent rear portions of the base plates and the adjacent stops l9 defining a chamber 65 into which is pivotally positioned base 33 of rear frame 29.
The upper end of the front frame is pivotally connected to the upper end of the rear frame and the lower end of the front frame loosely interlocks or engages between spanner 23 and the adjacent front stops 21, leaving just enough room to receive the free ends of sign 53, as shown in dotted lines, FIG. 2.
By this construction, when not in use, after first lifting the front frame 31 out of engagement with respect to the stops 21, the base may be pivoted upwardly as indicated in dotted lines and subsequently, the front frame may be pivoted inwardly about its top support, so that the base and the two frames are in compact parallel engaging registry for shipping or storage.
Having described my invention, reference should now be had to the following claims.
I claim: 1. A sign display stand comprising a hollow horizontally disposed base frame mountable upon a support;
said base frame including a pair of laterally spaced parallel base plates and a pair of transverse parallel spanners connected to said plates respectively;
up-turned reverse formed stops at the ends of said base plates;
a collapsible upright A-shaped wire frame mounted ,upon and transversely spanning said base plates; said frame including U-shaped front and rear frames;
a horizontally disposed sign support plate spanning and secured to the free upper ends of the rear frame; the free upper ends of the front A-frame being looped and pivotally extending through corresponding apertures in said sign support plate;
clips on and adjacent the stops at the rear ends of said base plates loosely receiving and pivotally retaining the base of said rear frame with respect to said base plate rear stops;
the base of said front frame spanning said base plates and interposed between the base plate front stops and an adjacent spanner; said sign support plate adapted to receive the apex of an inverted V-shaped sign having indicia thereon;
the free ends of said sign adapted to extend between the front and rear frames and the respective adjacent stops of said base plates and frictionally retained therebetween.
spaced from the adjacent base of each frame; and upright stop bars interconnecting at right angles the base and cross bar of each frame, spaced laterally inward from both legs thereof and registerable with said base plate stops.
