Gordon 1 1 ABSTRACT a calender of the desk type having a back cover and a front cover with a pair of calendar containing pages folded together therebetween and located within the closed covers in a neat and compact manner, with the covers being opened when it is desired to use the calender so that any selected pair of months are visible between the covers, and if it is desired, the calendar pages may be extended to their full length to display at a glance the full calendar year.

Field of the Invention This invention relates generally to calendars and more particularly to a novel and improved calendar of the desk type to permit the viewing of any pair of selected months or if desired. to permit the viewing of the full calendar year at one time.
2. Description of the Prior Art There have long been in use calendars of the more or-less conventional type intended for desk top use and normally consisting of a series of individual pages. If the calendar is intended as an appointment calendar. then there is normally provided a page for each particular date.
To avoid the inconvenience of going through all of the individual date pages to determine appointment dates is obvious. and accordingly there was developed in the art a calendar displaying each individual month and having all the dates of the month displayed on the single sheet with space adjacent thereto for the notation of appointments, memoranda or the like thereon so that the entire month may be viewed at a single time, However. these devices still provide disadvantages of use in keeping of dates and appointments. in that for example. when the end of a month is reached it is required to constantly flip the month page to insert future appointment dates for the next month on the following calendar page on which the next month is set forth. this causing the inconvenience of constantly flipping calendar pages back and forth with the further inconvenience that during the last few days of any one month an individual is not being constantly made aware of the appointments and obligations marked on the calandar for the first few days of the next month. Similarly. after an individual has turned to the next month. there are numerous occasions requiring that the past month be reviewed so that the individual must constantly flip back to the past month for purposes of reviewing the dates thereon.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention remedies and overcomes all of the foregoing deficiencies and disadvantages of presently available calendars by providing a novel calendar structure for displaying any selected pair of months simultaneously at one time and having space adjacent each date of each month displayed for the notation of memoranda appointments or the like. with a complete review of the entire calendar year being possible by merely extending the calendar pages to their full length such that the full calendar year of dates are all presented simultaneously for review at a glance without having to flip pages or the like,
It is a feature of the present invention to provide a new and improved construction for a calendar.
A further feature of the present invention provides a time saving and efficient calendar which is simple to use and eliminates the frustrations and aggravations sometimes encountered when using presently available calendars.
Still a further feature of the present invention provides a novel calendar constructed and arranged for greater viewability while at the same time providing adequate space for the notation of memoranda, appoint- Ill ments. or the like in a space provided for each calendar date.
Yet still a further feature of the present invention provides a calendar which may be neatly and compactly folded in a book like fashion when not in use. and readily opened to display any selected pair of months at a glance, with it being possible to extend the pages on which such months are printed in a manner to display the entire calendar year for review at a glance.
The provision of a calendar, such as briefly outlined above. and possessing the stated advantages. constitutes the principal features of the present invention The provision of a calendar which is relatively simple in its construction and which therefore may be readily manufactured at a relatively low cost and by simple manufacturing methods; one which is devoid of moving parts and which therefore is unlikely to get out of order; one which is rugged and durable and which therefore may be guaranteed by the manufacturer to withstand the full-year of normal usage: one which is aesthetically pleasing and refined in appearance; one which includes a book type holder which may be readily refilled with calendar sheets for future years in a manner to lengthen the overall life expectancy of the calendar; and one which, otherwise. is well adapted to perform the services required of it. are further desirable featurcs which have been borne in mind in the production and development of the present invention.
Other features and advantages of this invention will be apparent during the course ofthe following description.

FIG. 4 is a perspective view ofthe calendar folded for storage when not in use.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring now to the drawings there is illustrated a preferred form of a calendar constructed in accordance with the present invention and designated in its entirety by the reference numeral I0 and which is comprised of a front cover II, a back cover 12. and sheets of paper 13 and I4 each containing six months of the calendar year disposed in tandem relationship thercalong, such as sheet 13 containing the months January through June with sheet l4 containing the month July through December. The front and back covers I] and 12 respectively may be manufactured out ofany suitable satisfactory material providing an aesthetically pleasing and refined appearance. with the preferred embodiment having such fabricated out of a heavy gauge cardboard which is covered with a wood grain paper material to provide a durable and attractive carrying case at an economical expenditure. The calendar carrying sheets of paper 13 and 14 may be made of any desired thickness and imprinted on any desired quality of paper, with the preferred embodiment using an elongated rectangular sheet of thin high grade paper providing a high degree of legibility for writing on such paper.
The front and back covers ll and 12 are identically constructed of a substantially flat cardboard material having their innermost side edges hingedly connected together by a cardboard or cloth type hinge 18 such that the front cover is adapted to overlie the back cover when in the closed position with the top edge 2l, side edge 22, and bottom edge 23 of the top cover being disposed adjacent top edge 31, end edge 32, and bottom edge 33 respectively of the back cover 12. The front cover ll is formed at the top edge 2| thereof with a rolled over lip forming portion 25 having an edge 25 which is directed toward front cover bottom edge 23, the lip portion having an elongated rectangular aperture 27 extending transversely therethrough, the use of which will be later described. Similarly, back cover 12 is provided at the top edge 3l with a rolled over lip portion 32 having the terminal edge 36 thereof pointed in the direction of bottom edge 33. and the lip portion being provided with an elongated rectangular shaped aperture 37 disposed centrally thereof in a position aligned with aperture 27 in the front cover 11 when the front cover overlies the back cover.
The sheets of paper 13 and 14 are identical except for the months of the year which are imprinted thereon, with it being explained for exemplatory purposes that sheet 13 contains the months of January through June thereon with sheet l4 containing the months of July through December thereon of the same calendar year. Each of the sheets are of an elongated rectangular configuration with the earliest month of the year for the particular sheet printed at the top therof and each succeeding month then printed in its proper order therebeneath so that the months extend from the top end to the bottom end of each sheet of paper along the face sur face thereof, the width of each sheet of paper being less than the width of the front and back covers 1] and 12 respectively, with the length of each month imprinted on each sheet of paper being identical for each month and each extending a distance less than the height of the front and back covers. Further, each month imprinted on such sheets 13 and I4 is disposed in a location to register with apertures 27 or 37 depending upon which cover the sheet is inserted. with fold lines extending transversely ofcach sheet intermediate each of the months so that the six months of each sheet may be folded over upon each other in a variety of different ways such that any selected month of the six months may rest on top of the folded sheet. After the desired month has been placed on top of the particular folded sheet, the top portions 4l of the folded month defining calendar leaves are inserted beneath lip 25 or 35 with the month of such top sheet in registry with the aper ture 27 or 37 for visibility exterior of the lip when the covers are opened for viewing the adjacently disposed calendar sheets therein, such as shown in the drawings.
Thus. each month of the year is imprinted on what may be considered a separate leaf which is interconnected in series relationship with the other leaves in a top to bottom manner and then folded onto themselves to disclose a selected month at the top of the folded pile of leaves. it being understood that such leaves may be folded in a variety of different ways in order to present the desired month at the top of the folded pile of leaves.
Thus, when opening the calendar to view the calendar sheets on the front and back covers I] and [2,
it is also possible to unfold the interconnected accordian like arrangement of leaves from each of the covers such that the elongated sheets of paper 13 and 14 are extended to their full length in a manner exposing for simultaneous review all months of the calendar year without having to flip pages, turn sheets, or the like providing a rapid and expedient review of the different dates and the memoranda inserted therefor, this type of review being required at random times by professional men, businesses, private individuals, and the like. Thus, a quick and efficient display of the entire year's dates at a single time is provided in an efficient and expedient manner with such sheets being readily folded to a compact and neat package within the covers when not in use or when the calendar is desired to be used in the normal manner as displaying two side-by-side months, such as shown in the drawings.
It is to be understood that the form of this invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that this invention is not to be limited to the exact arrangement of parts shown in the accompanying drawings or described in this specification as various changes in the details of construction as to shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention, the scope of the novel concepts thereof, or the scope of the sub-joined claims.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed l. A calendar comprising in combination:
a substantially flat rectangularly shaped back cover having a top edge, a bottom edge, an outermost end. an innermost end, an interior surface, and an exterior surface;
a lip portion integrally formed with the back cover and extending along the back cover top edge and bent over onto itself in juxtaposition with the top portion of the cover interior surface to define a flap extending completely therealong having a terminal edge pointing in the direction of the cover bottom edge;
a substantially flat rectangularly shaped front cover of a size and configuration approximately equal to the size and configuration of the back cover, the front cover having a top edge, a bottom edge, an outermost end, an innermost end. an interior surface. and an exterior surface;
a lip portion integrally formed with the front cover and extending along the front cover top edge and bent over onto itself to be in juxtaposition with the top portion of the front cover interior surface with the terminal edge pointing in the direction of the front cover bottom end in a manner to define a flap extending completely along the top edge of the front cover;
the inner end of the front cover being hingedly connected to the inner adjacent end of the back cover with the front cover swingable thereabout between a closed portion overlying the back cover with the interior surfaces of the back cover and front cover disposed in confronting relationship and an open position where the front cover and back cover are co-planar;
a pair of elongated rectangular sheets of paper each of the same length and width and each having imprinted on the face surface thereof a series of six calendar months in succession thcredown from the top end to the bottom end of the face surface;
the first sheet containing the name and days of the months of January through June:
the second sheet containing the name and days of the months of July through December;
each month extending the full width of its associated sheet and approximately one-sixth the length thereof with the size of each month defining portion not exceeding the width and height of the respective covers;
a plurality of longitudinally spaced transversely extending fold lines disposed on each sheet and which are positioned intermediate the junction of the sequential months printed on the sheet such that the month defining portions on each sheet may be folded over upon each other in a variety of different ways utilizing such fold lines so that a desired month defining portion of each sheet may rest on the top of the folded sheet;
the top edge of the first sheet adapted to be placed in its folded condition beneath the flap of the front cover and held in position thereby such that the desired month indicia is visibly displayed on such cover when the covers are in the open position;
the top edge of the second sheet adapted to be placed in its folded condition beneath the flap of the back cover and held in position thereby such that the desired month is visibly displayed on such cover when the covers are in the open position;
an elongated rectangular aperture disposed centrally of the front cover flap and extending transversely therethrough;
an elongated rectangular aperture disposed centrally of the back cover flap and extending transversely therethrough in a position to register with the front cover aperture when the front cover is folded about the hinge to overlie the back cover;
each of the month indicia defining portions of each of the sheets having at the top central portion thereof the name of the month for which the por tion is intended;
the name of the month of the month defining portion laying topmost on the folded sheets when the same are inserted beneath the associated flap registering with the associated flap aperture for visibility of the month exteriorly of the flap, with the days of the corresponding month being visible below the associated flap;
the back cover and front cover each being manufactured of a heavy guage cardboard covered with a wood grain paper material.
and the hinge interconnecting the inner end of the front cover to the adjacent inner end of the back cover comprising a cloth material extending the complete length of the inner ends and secured thereto.
