NITED 'STATES PATENT "EEICEO ERNEST GREENE CONE, OF EAST HAMPTON, CONNECTICUT.
FOOT-#REST FOR RADEATORS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 392,588, dated November 13, 1888.
Application tled January 9, 1888.
To all wwm it may colmar.-
Be it known that I, ERNEST GREENE CoNE, of East Hampton, in the county of Middlesex and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Foot- Rests for Radiators, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, whereby any one skilled in the art can make and use the same.
The object of my invention is to provide a convenient device that may be readily attached toa steam-radiator or like heating apparatus, and may be ad j ustedin various positions thereon for the purpose oi' serving as a foot-rest.
My invention consists in the combination of the foot-bar terminating in the clamp devices at its opposite ends, and in the combination of the several parts making up the foot-rest as a whole, as more particularly hereinafter de` scribed, and pointed out in the claims.
Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view ofa steam-radiator showing my attachment in place thereon. Fig. 2isaview in central section through one of the pipes of the radiator and through the clamp device on the end of the foot-rest.
In the accompanying drawings, the letter a denotes the radiator ot' a heating apparatus, this radiator being of a kind that is adapted :for use with either hot water or steam as aheating medium. To the pipes b and c of this radiator is secured a foot-rest, d, that is made of any suitable material, as iron, having bent ends. that project into sockets on the saine side of the rod, and are adapted to be held in the outer ends of the clamps c, as shown in Eig. 2 ofthe drawings. These clamps, in the forms shown in the drawings, consist of a pair of jaws, c, that are of a shape to adapt them to inclose the pipe or the edge of the radiator, the clanip-screwf serving to bind the jaws together at a point preferably between the pipe b and the end of the frame el of the foot-rest. I do not, however, limit myself to any particular form of clamp device, nor to the special shape or contour of the frame making up the foot rest.
My improved foot-rest herein shown is capable of vertical adjustment on the radiator to adapt it for use at any desired height on the radiator.
I claim as my invention- 1. In combination with the radiator of a heating apparatus, the foot-rest (l, consisting of a bent frame terminating in clamp devices e, all substantially as described.
2. In combination With the radiator a, having vertical pipes b c, the foot-rest d, consisting of a pair of rods with inturned ends adapted to fit into sockets in the clamps e,aud the said clamps c having each a rod-socket, the grasping-jaws, and the clamp-screw, all substantially as described.
ERNEST GREENE CONE.
