To all whom it 77l/a/1/ concern:

Be it known that I, MADIsON DuSHIPMAN, a citizen of the United States, and aresident of De Kalb, in the countyof De Kalb and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvement-s in Glove-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in fasteners for gloves, mittens, &c., in which the fastener is adj ustable at will in its length between the two opposite portions of the wristlet; and it consists of the combinations of devices and elemeiTts set forth in the claim.

The objects of myinvention are to provide with gloves and mittens an adjustable fastening-strip and a separable button, whereby the wristlets of gloves and mittens can be made to nicely fit the wrist of the wearer, and also to provide specific means by which my invention can be carried into effect. I attain these objects by the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this invention, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the wristlet of a glove having myimprovement-s. Fig. 2 is a perspective View of a modification of the same in some of its parts. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of another modification. Fig. 4 is a sectional view of the same. Fig. 5 is aview of a piece which can be used for holding the adjustable strap. Fig. 6 is a view of amodification of the same which can be employed.

The same letters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.

In the drawings, A represents a wristlet of a glove or mitten, and B is a suitable gore inserted in the same for allowing an enlargement of the opening to within the glove without necessitating the use of a slit-opening; but as this gore forms no part of this invention it can be omitted, and a simple slit-opening can be used in lieu thereof, as shown in Fig. 2.

0 is a clasp-strap, made of any suitable flexible and strong material. One end of this strap is secured to the wristlet at a point a little back from one edge of the gore or slitopening, as at d in Fig. 1, or d in Fig. 2, or d in Fig. 3.

D is a loop, preferably made of metal and I secured to the wristlet at near the opposite edge I) of the gore or slit-opening. This loop can be secured to the material of the wristlet by any suitable means. The drawings show this loop to be secured in place by means of a second loop E, which is made of leather or cloth or equivalent flexible material. The clasp-strap O is passed through this loop D and turned on itself, as shown in the drawings.

F is a stud of aseparable button, which stud is secured to the wristlet A a short distance back from the edge of the gore or slit-opening, at which the strap is secured.

G is the button-head of a separable button, which button-head is secured to the free end portion of strap 0, and between the ends a loop D. This button-head serves two purposes-one as a check-piece to prevent the free end of strap 0 from being drawn out of loop D and the other as a means for fastening the free end to the stud F after the strap has been drawn to sufficiently tighten the wristlet on the wrist of the wearer.

It is well known that the size of hands in proportion to that of the wrists of individuals varies to a greater or less extent, so that in many cases persons having large hands may have comparatively small-sized wrists, or the reverse may be the case. In order that the wristlets may be of capacity for receiving a fitting hand in the glove, and at the same time be adapted to be contracted at will for nicely fitting a wrist of the size of the wearer which may be with the glove hand, Iprovide a means for increasing or lessening the length of the clasp-strap 0 between its point of connection with the wristlet and the button-head attached to the said strap.

The drawings, Fig. 1, show the means for increasing or lessening the length of strap 0 to consist of a tongue buckle d, and in Fig. 2 this means is shown to consist of a bar buckle 01 while in Figs. 3 and 4 it is shown to consist of a suitable cleat-plate d, which is shown in plan view in Fig. 6.

In Figs. 1 and 2 the buckles are shown to be secured to the outer side of the wristlet, while in Figs. 3 and 4 the cleat-plate is shown to be applied to the under side of the mate rial.

V hen it is desired to adjust this strap to suit a 1arge-sized wrist, the secured end portion of the strap will be let out to a distance sufficient to provide the increase, While when it is desired to adjust this strap for use with a smaller wrist the said end portion will be taken up, and in all cases this strap will be so adjusted in its length between button-head G and the adjusting-piece that when the said button-head is fastened to the stud F the wristlet will be drawn so as to nicely fit all around on the wrist of the wearer.

I have described and shown my improvements to be applied to the wristlets of gloves and mittens; yet it is to be understood that I can apply the same to boots shoes, and overshoes without departing from my inven tion, so that the ankle portions of boots and shoes can be made to nicely fit the ankle of the wearer.

In a fastener for gloves and other articles, the combination, with a loop which is secured to one side of the slit-openingorgore in the article and a buckle or its described equivalent which is secured to the oppositeside of said slitopening or gore, of the clasp-strap provided with a button-head of a separable button, and a fastening-stud secured to the material at a little distance from said buckle or its described equivalent, substantially as and for the purposes and operations set forth.
