Description

TQ MLLER. u
MATTRESS.
No. 433,905. Patenfed Aulg,1890.v
' w1 Essss held intact, as shown in Fig. l.
THEODOR MLLER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGN OR OF ONE-HALF TO BERNHARD MARKS, OF SAME PLACE.
MATTRESS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 433,905, dated August 5, 1890.A
Application filed May 2, 1889. Serial No. 309,348. (No model.)
To all whom i may con/cern:
Beit known that I. THEoDoR MLLER, a
citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Mattresses, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists in a mattress form ed in sections, one of which has a recess in its top and is provided with a pillow-section covering said recess.
It further consists of the combination of parts herein set forth and claimed.
Figure l represents a perspective view of a mattress embodying my invention. Figs. 2 and 3 represent sections of portions on lines :r and y y, respectively, Fig. l.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a mattress, which is formed of sections separated one from another an d coupled by means of straps B and buckles C, attached to adjacent sections, whereby the mattress may be In one of the sections isa pocket D, forming a receptacle for a jewel or money case E, which, as will be seen, is covered and concealed by the pillowsection F of the mattress, said section having. also a pocket Gat the side for containing a pistol or fire-arm, it being noticed that access to the pocket G is at the side of the section, whereby the pistol may be conveniently reached, while the case E is guarded by being beneath the occupant of the mattress.
I am aware that it is not new to construct a mattress of sectional parts, the lsaid parts having' means connected therewith for securing the same together, and I am also aware that it is not new to forma mattress with depressions therein ladapted to receive elbows and shoulders of the person resting thereon; but I am not aware that it is common to construct a mattress of sections some of which are formed of inclined portions adapt-ed to be placed on other sections, so as to present a raised or pillow portion, as shown in Fig. l, and adapted when folded on each other to forma bundle of substantially the same form and bulk as either of the other sections. Neither is it thought to be old to construct one of the sections, which is concealed by one of the pillow-sections when the mattress is in use, with a pocket or recess adapted to 'receive a box or receptacle.
Having thus described-lny-invention, WhatI claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A mattress having a body formed of sections, one of said sections having in its upper part a recess open at the top, and an inclined pillow-section covering said section having the recess, said parts being combined substantially as described.
2. A mattress having a body formed of sections, with straps and buckles for connecting the same and a pillow-section, one of the bodysections having in its upper part a recess which is covered by said pillow-section and in its side a recess which is uncovered, said parts beingl combined substantially as described.
