' Beit known that I, CHARLES MEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cortland, in the county of Cortland and State of New York, have invented an Improvement in Lounges, of which the following' is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in lounges; and the objects ot' my invention are to rendeluthe said lounge adjustable at the will and pleasure of the user, and to enable the said user to change the same into a righthand lounge, a left-hand lounge, ora settee or tte-a-tte, as he may desire and his convenlence may require, or, if he desires, to turn the same into a latsurface for a bed, or any other use to which the same may be applied. I attain these objects by the mechanism or contrivanees illustrated in the aecompanyin g drawings, in which- Figure l is a front view ot my invention, and also showing the sectional end view of the same. Fig. 2 is a back View of my invention. Fig. 3 is a sectional front view of my invention with the head rests thereof attached thereto, one being elevated and the other lying horizontal.

A is the frame of the bed of the lounge.

B B are recesses in each end of the front and back rails of the said frame, making a firm and substantial rest for the head-rest ot said lounge when lying in a horizontal position.

C C are braces, one thereof beingattaehed by means of a hinge to the cross-bar at cach end of the frame of the bed ot said lounge at I), there being a slot in the upper end of said braces C C at E, said slot being of sul'licient length for the purposes of my invention. Said braces may be made out of wood, iron, or any other suitable material. On each side of said slot E and en the inner side of said braces C C, I place and attach a corrugatediro'n facing. This facing, however, maybe made of an)7 other metal. 'lhis faeingin the drawings is marked E.

G G Gn These head-rests are so constructed that when lying in a horizontal position they shall lit into the recesses ll ll and rest upon the projection thereol', thus securingI forthem, when in that position, a lirm and substantial rest. This may be accomplished in part by aid ot' the blocks ll ll ll ll,plaeod at and firmly attachcd to each corner ol.I thefranle A, and by similar blocks ll ll ll ll', placed al the lower end and inside tho headsrests l-` l*` and lirmly attm-hedthereto, said blocks on the :frame and head-rests being placed immediately under the hinges (i (i ('l; or this may be accomplished by any other device which shall raise the said hinges (l (l (l up even with the top of the upholstering-strip. The said head-rests l" l `shall also be so eonstrueted that the outer laeingj" thereol' shall lap over and work. entirely treo and independent of the front of the frame A, thus allording a complete cover to the joints and recesses in the l'ront rail thereof. Un the outer and under side of each of said head-rests ll1 l", l place a metal corrugated washer I I with a hole in the center thereof, said washer being so placed as to come in contact with the su rface of the corrugated plates or facings E.

Passing through the slot ll) and the hole in the washers I I is a set-screw or clamp-screw J, whereby said iacings and washers are brought in contact with each other.4
