OF SAN JACINTO,
BLOTTER ATTACHMENT vFOlR CHECK-BOOKS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 526,121, dated September 18, 1894.
Application iiled July 13, 1393. SeralNo. 480,382. (No model.)
United States, residing at San Jacinto, in the county of Riverside and State of California, have invented a new and useful Blotter Attachment for Check-Books, of which the fol-- lowing is a specification.
Our invention relates to an improvement in blotter attachments for check books; and it consists in a check book, provided with a stub for each check, and having a blotter attached at its outer end to the outer end of the top cover by means of a removable mechanical fastening, as will be more fully described hereinafter.
The object of our invention is to provide check books with a blotter that is attached to the cover of the book in such a manner that every stub can be as freely blotted as -t-he checks.
Figure 1 is a perspective of a check book to which ourinvention is applied. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective of one corner of the book cover and blotter, showing both the manner of attaching them, and protecting the corners of the blotters.
lrepresents the cover of an ordinary bank book provided with checks 2 and stubs 3. Attached to the top cover of the book at its outer free end by means of the ordinary-paper fasteners 6, or similar mechanical attachments, is a blotter 4, and over the corners of the cover and the blotter are pasted or otherwise secured covers 7, of any suitable material. These covers serve to protect the corners of the blotter, and at the same time cover over the points of the fasteners so las to prevent them from rising up and injuring the hands While handling the book, tearing papers, or keeping the blotter from being freely used.
The blotter being secured at its outer vend only to the cover, its inner end is left free to be inserted between the stub or stubs that have been torn off and the stub of the check that is to be blotted, and then torn out, thus enabling the maker of the check to not only freely blot every stub, but to do it at the saine time he blots the check itself. Y
Heretofore bank books have been provided with blotters that areY bound in with the checks, and being fastened at their inner ends, can only be used in blotting the first stub, unless the maker first bends the free end of the blotter around these stubs from which the checks have been removed, and blots the stub of the check just made and then blots the check afterward. If he attempts to blot the check iirst he presses the other stubs down upon the one upon which the ink is still wet, and so blurs it. By attaching the blotter to the top cover only at its outer end, every stub and check can be blotted at the same time.
We are aware that in copybooks blotters have been pasted to the outer ends of the top cover, and used for blotting the pages, and this we disclaim. Our invention differs from this in attaching the blotter to a bank book by means of mechanical fastenings, so as to enable the blotter to be removed and another substituted when necessary, and so as to enable a person to blot both the stub and check at the same time.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim is- 1. A bank book provided with checks and stubs, combined with a blotter that is attached to the outer end of the top cover of the book by means of a mechanical fastening, whereby both the check and stub can be blotted at the same time, substantially as shown.
2. A bank book provided with both checks and stubs, combined with a blotter that is attached to the outer end of the top cover by means of a mechanical fastening, and covers for the corners of the blotter and the fasteners, substantially as described.
3. A bank book provided with both checks and stubs, combined with a blotter 4, that is attached only at its outer end to the outer end of the cover by means of a mechanical fastening 5, and the covers 7, applied to the outer corners of the blotter so as to cover and protect the fastenings, whereby the blotter is left free at its inner end and ready to be inserted between the stubs of the cheeks which have been torn off, and the check and tulthat are to be blotted, substan tially as set ort In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own we have hereto affixed our sgnatures I in the presence of two witnesses., Y
