Description
NiTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY F. ZIMMERLIN AND CHARLES G. ZIMMERLIN, OF LYONS, NEV YORK.
AX-RACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 553,445, dated January 21, 1896.
Application filed April 29, 1895. Serial No. 547,483. (No model.)
.To @ZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, HARRY F. ZIMMERLIN and CHARLES G. ZIMMERLIN, of Lyons, in the county of Wayne, in the` State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in AX-Racks, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of this invention is to display in stores samples of chopping-axes in such a manner as to hold them in a compact and neat position and without danger of injuring persons approaching the display apparatus, and also permit the axes to be easily applied and removed from the apparatus; and to that end the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of the component parts of the display-rack, as hereinafter described, and set forth in the claims.
In the annexed drawings, Figure l is an elevation of a display apparatus embodying our invention. Figs. 2 and 3 are enlarged plan views of portions of the azz-supporting plates, and Figs. 4 and 5 are transverse sections, respectively, on lines X X and Y Y in Figs. 2 and 3.
A represents the standard or support of the display-rack, which support may be of any suitable shape. Upon the top of the standard is firmly secured the horizontal plate P, preferably of annular shape. The plate is formed with horizontal radiallyprojecting brackets a a, each of which terminates with' the lateral offset a' on its free end, between the end of which odset and adjacent bracket a is a space c, which serves as a passage to the recess b, formed between the brackets by the aforesaid odset, as shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings. Each of the brackets is provided with an upward-projecting lug d on the free end of the odset a', and also preferably with a rib d on top of said odset. The top of the plate p is provided with ribs ZZ. The purpose of this plate is to carrya plurality of axes attached to handles. Said axes are mounted on the described display-rack by placing the ax with its handle depending therefrom and passing the handle laterally through the space c, then moving the ax lat-A erally to carry the handle thereof into the recess b, and then setting the back of the ax onto the rib d and placing the front portion of the ax between the ribs Zlon the plate, said ribs and the lug d serving to retain the ax on the bracket.
To provide lateral supports for the depending handles of the axes, we attach to the lower portion of the standard A a horizontal plate C, against the edge of which said handles rest, as shown in Fig. l of the drawings.
For displaying axes detached from the handles we provide the top of the plate O with ribs h 71, and spurs t i, which latter enter the eyes of the axes set upon the aforesaid ribs, as illustrated in Figs. 3 and 5 of the drawings.
lVhat we claim as our invention is- 1. The within described ax-rack consisting of the standard -A, an annular horizontal plate -P- secured upon said standard and formed with horizontal radially projecting brackets -a--deach terminating with a lateral odset -aon the free end forming a recess -bbetween the brackets to receive the suspended handle of the ax supported on the bracket, and a passage -c to said recess, a lug -don the free end of each odset, a rib -d on top of each odset to support the back of the head of the ax, ribs -ZZ- on top of the plate P between which the front portion of the head of the axis held, a horizontal plate -C- secured to the lower portion of the standard A for the depending handles of the axes supported on the brackets Cc-a* of the pla-te P- to rest against, ribs -h-zf formed on the plate -C- for supporting axes detached from the handles, and with spurs --z` entering the eyes of said axes as set forth and shown. y
2. In a display rack for axes, the combination of the standard DA--, an annular horizontal plate -P secured upon the top thereof and formed with horizontal radially projecting brackets "0L-am each terminating with a lateral odset mcd on its free end forming the recess -bbetween the brackets to receive the suspended handle of the ax held on the bracket and a passage -=cto said recess,
a lug -cZ- on the free end of the oset -cL-, a rib -d'- on top of the offset of each bracket to support the back of the ax, and ribs Z-Z of said plate-between Which the front portion ofthe ax is held as set forth and shown.
3. In combination with the standard, the plate -C- provided with ribs -h-hfor supporting the heads of the axes, and With spurs -i-z'- entering the eyes of the axes mounted erect on the aforesaid plate substan- 1o tia'lly as described and shown.
In testimony whereof We have hereunto signed our names this 20th day of April, 1895.
HARRY F. ZIMMERLIN. [ns] CHAR-LES G. ZIMMERLIN. [11.5.] Titnesses D. E. ENGEL,
