'UNITED' STATES PATENT OirIcE.
.IAMEs FRYE, 'or PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
sHAv|Ne-euP.'
SPECIFICATZCON forming part of LettersPatent No. 568,529, dated September 29, I18'96.
f Application ld June 1, 1896. Serial No. 593,700. (No model.)
1.'0 will whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, 'JAMES FRYE, a .citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the co nty of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have' invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shaving-Cups; and I do declare `the following to be a full, clear, and exaetdescription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which y ro it appertains to make'and use the same, refer encebeinghad to the accompanyingdrawings, andto the letters of reference marked theree on, which form a part of this specification.
. My invention relates to new and useful improvements in shaving-cups, as fully described hereinafter and pointed `out in the claims hereunto annexed.
. Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical section'of a shaving-cup embodying my zo improvements, the section being taken on the line l 1` Qf Fig. -2. Fig. 2 is a plan View of the 'construction' shown in Fig. 1.. Fig. 3 is a ver.
tical .section similar to that shown in Fig. 1, but of a somewhat modiiied form of my iny2 5 vention; and Fig. 4 is a plan view of the construction illustrated in section in Fig. 3.
Similar letters of reference refer to similar parts' throughout the several views of the 3o A is-a cup', preferably formed of metal, the
.same being internally'threaded at the topufor the reception of theiian ged portion of the c'up B, although, if desired, the two portions A and B may be united together by soldering A screwplug B is fitted to an openingin the flanged portion of the inner cup B at the top ofthe shaving-cup, said opening being provided for the purpose of fillingthc annular space formed 4o Abetween the cups A and B with Water.
l \To the cup A is secured a handle AJ, and retained within said handle is a rubber bulb -Cone end of which .communicates with an opening provided with a valve c, and the other with an opening provided with a valve c at the to o; the handle. v
A pipe() communicates with the opening int-he top ci' 'the' handle and thence passes through the ilanged'portion of the cup B, the
5o -whole being` so arranged .that by compressing the bulb Cra volume of air is forced intothe annular space between the cups A and B, so
- I claim, 'and desire that a portion vof thewater contained tfrlrein will be forced through the pipe D 'and discharged at the mouth E' of said pipeinto the center of the cup B, which may contain soap for forminglather. in the construction shown in Figs. 3 and 4 the screw-plug B and the bulb C, with the connecting parts already describedLare omitted, the annuiarspace between the cups A and 'B being supplied with a quantity of water which will pass through the opening D2, and when said space has been filled the excess of Water contained in the cup B is poured out. In order to then supply the cup B with a quantity of water from the an- :nular space, I provide an opening in the anged portion of s'aid cup with a valve C2, forming part rof a lever E, which is fulcrumed at a point e 'and held in a closed position by a leaf-spring e'. .When theshort armo the l lever E is depressed, the valve. C2 is rai d from its seat, allowinglair to enter the annu lar space, which allows' the water to flow by Si:
gravity through the opening/D into the inside ofthecupB.. l
Having noW described my invention, what to secure by LettersPat- 1. A shaving-cu com risingr an outer re o u D ceptacle and an Inner receptacle, said Inner receptacle having a flanged top adapted to be detachably secured to the outer cup, an annular space formed between said cups `and adapted to be filled with Water, an inlet for air in the flanged portion of the inner cup and an outlet for water at the bottom of the inner cup, and a valve for regulating .the quantity of air admitted to the annular space, substantially as specified.
2.l A shaving-cup comprising an outer receptacle and an' inner receptacle, said inner receptacle having a flanged top adapted to be detachably secured to the outer receptacle, a
collapsible bulb secured' within.- a handle mounted upon the outer receptacle, a passage leading from the top of bulb to the annular space between the receptacles and provided with a valve, a valved opening in the lower portion of said bulb, and a pipe located in the nnular space and having an outlet at thc top IOC of the inner cup'to which itis, secured, subp s'tantially as specied.
3. A ;'Ihecombination in a' shaving-cup of'an outer receptacle A, and an inner receptacle 1;, the inner receptacle having a flanged top 'ldapted to be seeured to the outeroup, n handle A' mounted upon the outer receptacle and 5 provided with :L collapsible bulb .C a pipe C' communicating with the upper part of said bulb and the annular space between said receptncles and provided with a valve c', n valve c provided at the lower end of said bulb, :L 1o pipe I) seein-edt() and having im opening into the inner receptacle at the top thereof, and an opening provided with a screw-cap B' at the top of the shaving-cup, substantially als specified. f
In testimony whereof I afilx my signature 15 in presence of two witnesses,
JAMES `FRYE. 'tnesses:
