T. H. MILLER, OF ALLENTOWN, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVED APPARATUS FOR COOLING LIQUORS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 56,978, dated August 7, 1866.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TILMAN H. MILLER, of Allentown, in the county of Lehigh and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ice-Boxes for Cooling Liquors; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and the letters of this specification.
A represents the ice'box, which is made oblong or any other suitable shape, being provided with a lid, D, which lid has a series of circular openings in it to allow the bottles con taining the liquor to pass into the box A. The entire bottom and sides of the box are lined with zinc or other suitable metal, as seen at b, While sitting upright in said box and directly are metallic tubes 0, to place the bottles in.
9 represents a strip of india-rubber, which is placed on the under side of lid D, and has an opening under each of the openings in the lid, as shown in Figure 1.
\Vhen the lid is closed down on the box, the lining zinc and the top edges of the tubes fit snugly into the rubber and form a close joint, making the bo x perfectly air-tight.
Between each of the tubes 0 and at the ends of the box A is placed the ice F, which is kept from melting by the air-tight state in which it is placed.
H is a small spout in the bottom of the box, to allow the water to run off should any collect.
It will be seen by this device that liquors are kept perfectly cool by being continually in contact with the ice, and that it is unnecessary to put small pieces of broken ice into the liquor when drank, as is the usual custom, while the bottles are kept in a position that they are less liable to be broken.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The metallic-lined box A, provided with the lid D,.with rubber strip g, and tubes 0, to allow the bottles to be placed, forming a recep tacle between each tube for the ice F, the whole being arranged as and for the purposes herein set forth. V
