I. J. LOWNDES. TOOL FOR STRINGING POULTRY.

Patented me 15, 1897.

HIS ATTORNEY Nrrn rains nrnnr umen.

FREDERICK J. LOIVNDES, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 584,381, dated June 15, 1897.

Application filed July 30, 1896. $eria1 No. 601,118. (No model.)

To 60% whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, FREDERICK J. Lownnns, of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Tools for Stringing Poultry, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my improvement is to provide a simple, cheap, and efficient tool for stringing poultry, or, in other words, for removing the tendons from the limbs of poultry.

My improvement consists in the combination of two levers pivotally connected together between their ends, having the portions on one side of the pivot shaped suitably for handles and the portions on the other side of the pivot formed into longitudinally-tapering jaws whose extremities present straight sharp cutting-faces. One of the jaws may be inserted between the bone and the tendons of a limb and forced longitudinally through the space, so as to move the tendons away from the bone. Afterward the other jaw is to be closed upon the tendons and the tool twisted in the hand until the tendons are removed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side view of a tool embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is a view in a plane at right angles to Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an end view.

A A designate two levers fulcrumed or pivoted together intermediate their. ends by a pin A, which may be riveted at the ends to secure it in place. Beyond thepivot, at one side, these levers may be shaped suitably for handles a, which preferably will have atof a fowl and between the tendons and the bone. By forcing it sufficiently far its wedge shape will cause the tendons to move away from the bone. The other jaw may then be closed upon the tendons, and while the tendons are firmly gripped the tool may be rotated so as to withdraw the tendons.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A tool consisting of levers pivoted together and shaped at one side of the rivet to form handles, and at the other side to form longitudinally-tapering jaws terminating at their ends in straight sharp cutting-faces at right angles to the body of the tool, substantially as specified.

In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.

F. J. LOWVNDES.
