REMOVABLE COVERING FOR HANDLES.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 585,657, dated July 6, 1897;. Application filed October 9,1896. Serial No. 608,386. (No model) lie it known that I, Jonx l mzrcnnn DuncsoN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Trenton, county of Mercer, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Removable loverings forllandles, of which the following accompanying d rawings, forming a part thereof, in which similar letters and figures of reference indicate corresponding parts.

This invention relates to an improvement in removable coverings for handles, he object' thereof being to supply an ellicicnt article of this character adapted especially for use of mot ormen, whereby they can manipulate metallic handles for operatingbrakes, &c., without bringing the hands in direct contact therewith, thus preventing the injurious consequeiiccsrcsulting from handling brass or other metallic handles, a further objectbeing to provide a handle whereby a motorman does not runany risk of receivinga shock through the medium of a handle chargei'l byeonditions of the atmosphere during electric storms.

The invention will be hereinafter fully described, audspecitically set forth in the annexed claim.

In the accompanying drawings, forming part. of this specification, Figure l is a side elevation oi a brake-liainlle having my improved cover attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional elevation taken on a line 22 of: Fig. i. The hood a of the cover has an opening or slit 1 extendedthe et-hrough for facilitating the attachment of the same to the handle, and the abutting edges of this said slit are provided with a head :2 for supplying i gidity to the device. This sa' "l bead extends around the edge of the flap a for the purpose of strengthening the same, whereby a durable covering is provided. These .twosaid portions (1 and a are preferably made in two pieces, and beads 3 and 4 are provided upon their respective end portions where they contact with each other. Upon the opposite innor surfaces of the flap (t are attached loops (1 adapted to engage a link a, forming. a clasp to secure the flap to the handle.

I do not confine myself to the specific details of design and mechanical construction as herein described and shown, as it is obviupon the edges of said slit and a beaded flap and clasps for attaching the flap to a handle, substantially as shown and'dcscribed.
