NON-FILLABLE BOTTLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 589,956, dated September 14, 1897. Application filed April 10, 189 6 Serial No. 586,967. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known thatLPHILIP CHARLES BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, county of Kin gs, State of New York, have invented a new and useful Non-Fillable Bottle, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in non-fillable bottles; and the objects 'of my improvements are to provide a bottle that cannot be refilled. I attain this objectby the means illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a sectional view of abottle having a short neck with a shoulder and having screw-threads below the shoulder on the outside of said neck; Fig. 2, a sectional view of the upper section of the neck or nozzle, having projections on the inside on alternate sides thereof and provided with screw-threads at its lower extremity on the outside; Fig. 3, a view of the wooden valve weighted at its lower extremity or shank; Fig. 4:, a View of the band; Fig. 5, a sectional view of the nonfillable bottle.
Similar letters refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
I make any desired size of bottle of any suitable material. The neck is made in two parts. The lower or short neck A (connected with the bottle) is made with a shoulder N, provided with screw-threads D on the outside below the shoulder. The upper section of the neck or what may be called the nozzle B has at its lower extremity, on the outside, screw-threads E, and is provided on the inside with two or more projections O on alternate sides of the neck or nozzle. These projections or horizontal tongues extend horizontally half-way or more across the nozzle.
Before the neck and nozzle A B are joined I insert the wooden valve or stopper K,which is weighted at its lower extremity or shank 11. After the wooden valve with its weighted shank is put in place the fioatable valve is outside of and on top of the contracted opening G. In my invention it is immaterial whether the valve-seat is at the top of the neck or below the top. The weighted shank enters the contracted opening and extends below it.
The valve is made of wood, weighted at its the nozzle.
The wooden valve, weighted at its lower extremity, does not float when the bottle is upright, but when it is placed on its side then the wooden valve floats as the fluid enters the bottle, and the suction caused by the contracted opening causes the wooden valve to float into its proper position to close the contracted opening and stop the inflow of the fluid.
I am aware that bottles having screwthreads on the neck have been made, but this I do not claim broadly. I am also aware that non-fillable bottles have been made with valves of glass, &c.; butIam not aware nor do I believe that there has ever been made previous to my invention thereof a non-fillable bottle having a nozzle provided with horizontal projections or tongues integral with said nozzle and having a valve made of wood, weighted at its lower extremity.
Y Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the valve the upper part being of wood the lower part weighted with porcelain, glass or similar substances, so constructed and weighted as to be semifioatable when horizontal but not fioatable when vertical, said valve resting on a contracted opening in the bottle-neck below the top, of the nozzle having projections or tongues on the inside on alternate sides thereof, extending horizontally half-way or more across the nozzle and integral therewith cemented or otherwise secured to the neck of the bottle.
PHILIP CHARLES BROWN.
