F CRANE HOSE BRIDGE FOR RAILWAYS.
Patented Nov. 30,1897.
INVENTOR ATTORNEY,
U ITED ST TES FRANK CRANE, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
HOSE-BRIDGE .FOR RAlLWAYS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 594,465, dated November 30, 1897.
- I Application filed Dece ber 12, 1896- Serial No. 615,430. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK CRANE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hose-Bridges for Railways, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to the movement of cars over street-railways; and its object is to provide means for passing the cars over the lines of hose which are drawn across the track in time of fire. This object is attained by providing a bridge having separable approaohes and center spans, which are adapted to be assembledon the rails and over the hose, by means of which cars may be passed over one ormore lines of hose without injuring them or interfering with their operations.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, of which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a section of track with the bridge placed thereon. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a bridge-truss with the 'approaches and center span separated. Fig.
sembled on the track-rails 3, as illustrated in tion between the approaches and the chair the abutments 7 of the former may be provided with mortises 8 to receive tenons 9, formed on the chairs, the parts being secured together by means of a key, if found desirable.
The chairs are formed with the arches 10 and 11, which when the parts are assembled form, with the abutments 7, ways for the passage of the hose, which may be covered by the guards 12 and 13, of inverted-U-shaped section.
The length of each truss and the number of apertures for the passage of lines of hose may be increased at pleasure by using two or more spans or chairs between the approaches.
It will be understood that my invention may be employed for passing cars over cables or like obstructions which may be placed across the track.
I claim as my invention- In a hose-bridge, in combination, a center span having a chair adapted to be supported by and secured to a railway-track, a pair of approaches adapted to be supported by and secured to said railway-track and having their abutments in engagement with said center span, and archways formed by said abutments and chair, whereby a hose-passage is formed on each side of said chair, as specified.
, In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK CRANE.
