COMPOUND FOR THE CURE OF FOOT-BOT IN SHEEP.

SPECIFICATION.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, DANIEL KINNEY, of Loami, in the county of Sangamon, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and improved Medical Compound; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to fully understand and make use of the same. i l I The present invention relates to a new and improved medical compound, for the cure of foot-rot, so called in sheep, which compound is composed of the following ingredients mixed together, in or about the proportions named, and in the manner to be hereinafter stated, viz: apothecaries weighttwo ounces powdered or pulverized cantharides; one and one quarter (1%) ounces of mercurial ointment; one (1) drachm butter of antimony; three ounces spirits of turpentine; two (2) ounces tincture of iodine; five (5)'drachms pulverized gum euphorbium; two (2) pounds sulphate of copper; two (2) pounds of lard.

The lard is first melted in an iron or other suitable vessel and while hot the euphorbium is added, and then the sulphate of copper, which being well stirred and mixed together, the compound thus produced is then removed from the fire by which the lard was melted, and allowed to cool. The remaining ingredients are then to be added, the spirits of turpentine the last, after which the Whole is then thoroughly mixed together, either in a mortar or by being passed through an ordinary paint-mill or in any other suitable manner, when the compound produced is ready for use.

In the use of my improved medical compound above described, the diseased part of the hoof is first removed by paring or in any other suitable manner, when the compound is applied with thefingers, orwith a swab, or other suitable means. If the weather is damp or rainy, it is best to tie up or bandage the foot with a cloth tokeep the mud or dirt from coming in contact with it, and before using the compound as above stated,'it should be well stirred, as when allowed to stand for any time, its ingredients become separated from each other, more or less, according to the length of time.

I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The improved medical compound herein described for the purpose specified.

' DANIEL KINN'EY.
