llnrrn STATES VALENTINE WELZ, OF TRENTON, ILLINOIS.
LEVELING DEVICE FOR BlLLlARD-TABLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 622,028, dated March 28, 1899.
Application filed July 25, 1898. Serial No. 686,802. (No model.)
provements in Leveling Devices for Billiard Tables; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to anovel support for the legs of billiard, pool, and other tables whereby the bed of the table may be leveled or adjusted as occasion requires to maintain its horizontal position; and the object is to provide a simple, durable, and practical device for this purpose.
To this end the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the device, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
The accompanying drawings show my invention in the best form now known to me; but many changes in the details might be made within the skill of a good mechanic without departing from the spirit of my invention as set forth in the claim at the end of this specification.
The same reference characters indicate the same parts of the invention.
Figure l is a perspective View of my leveling device as applied to the lower end of the leg of a billiard-table. vertical section of the same.
1 denotes the lower end of the leg, and 2 a rectangular socket formed with a continuous flange 3 to encompass the lower end of the leg. The upper face of the socket 2 is also formed with an axial collar 4, which extends into a corresponding annular recess 5 in the leg.
Fig. 2 is a transverse- 6 represents abase-block, and 7 a bolt-head provided with the integral stud-bolts 8 and 9, the stud-bolt 8 being formed with a left-hand thread to engage a correspondingly-threaded orifice in the base-block 6, while the studbolt 9 is formed with a right thread to engage a corresponding orifice in the socket 2. The bolt-head 7 is provided with a series of radial orifices 1O 10 to receive a suitable rod or tool, (not shown,) by means of which the head 7 and reversely-threaded stud-bolts 8 and 9 may be turned to the right or left to raise or lower the table-leg in order to adjust the bed to a level or horizontal position.
12 denotes a case' or hood snugly encom passing the lower end of the leg and the entire socket, bolts, and base-block, and it also forms a guard to retain the base-block in its relatively-alined position with regard to the socket while the screw is being manipulated. This case or hood is formed with a lateral opening 13, closed by a slide-door 14, by means of which access may be had to the bolt-head for the purpose of adjusting it.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, 1s
In combination, with the rectangular leg 1 and correspondinglyformed socket 2, the rectangular base-block 6, the bolt-head 7 and integral reversely-threaded bolts 8 and 9, and the rectangular head 12 encompassing said socket and block, so as to retain them in their relative positions while being adjusted, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
VALENTINE WELZ.
Witnesses:
FRED. O. MILLIGAN, ALBERT E. CRAIG.
