Be i t known that I, MELZER BURT, of Norton, in the county of Bristol, and State of Massachusetts, have made a. new and useful inventionl having` reference to Ladders; and I do hereby declare the same to be fully described in the following specification, and represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure 1 is a front elevation; and

Figure2`a. vertical section of a ladder provided with my invention, the purpose of which is to enable a painter or other artisan 0r person, while using a ladder, to have a platform or means of support for himself or his tools or implements, besides that furnished by the rounds of the ladder.

In the drawings, A denotes a common ladder of which a a a, &c., are the rounds or steps, and, b b the bars. B is a board or platform provided with two brackets C C extending downward from it at rightrangles to it, and parallel to each other. Each bracket terminates, at its lower end, in a fork, c, t-o straddle and rest on one of the rounds of the ladder. Furthermore, each bracket is provided with a notch or hook, as shown' at d, in order that it may be hooked upon another or the next round of the ladder, the whole being in manner as represented. Aworkman or person by means of the adjustable platform can he supported by the ladder to -better advantage than without it,` as he can stand or 'sit upon it, and, as may bc necessary, he can place it at such elevations on the ladder as circumstances may require. It also affords a means of supporting a stage or board, when extended from one ladder to another i I claim the ladderaddition as composed of the`board B, and furcated and hooked brackets C C, constructed, arranged, and appli-ed together substantially as set forth.

I also claim the combination of the above-described ladder addition, made as described with a ladder.
