W/ TNE SSE S IN VE N 70/? Y B) Mg ATTORNEYS CHARLES FREDRICK NESSE, OF ELKO, NEVADA.
DESK ATTACHMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 652,567, dated June 26, 1900.
Application filed April 9, 1900.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES FREDRICK NEssE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Elko, in the county of Elko and State of Nevada, have invented a new and Improved Desk Attachment, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved attachment for schooldesks, writing-desks, tables, and the like, the attachment being arranged to prevent the arm of the writer from sliding along the smooth surface of the desk, especially when the writer uses the muscular-movement style of writing, and to indicate at a glance whether the arm is in proper position or not.
The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as Will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a reduced perspective View of the improvement as applied to a school-desk. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the improvement detached, and Fig. 3 is a sectional sid elevation of the same as applied.
The improved attachment consists, essentially, of a plate A, made of sheet metal, rubber, or other suitable material and formed with a top member A and a bent-over bottom member A to form a clamp for attaching the device to the table or top B of a desk or like article, as indicated in Figs. 1 and 2. The
distance between the members A and A corresponds approximately to the thickness of the table or top 13, so that said members readily clamp the device in place when the same is pushed upon the desk at one edge thereof, as will be readily understood by reference to Figs. 1 and 3.
derial No. 12,114. (No model.)
The inner surface of the plate A is provided with a lining O, of cloth or other suitable material, so as to prevent marring the polished surface of the desk and at the same time assist in holding the attachment in position on the table or top 13. The lining 0 extends un der an opening A formed in the top member A of the plate A, so that this portion of the lining forms a roughened surface on the top member for the arm of the writer to rest on, said roughened surface preventing the arm from accidentally sliding along the polished surface of the table and at the same time indicatin g to the writer that his arm is in proper position as long as it rests on the roughened surface.
The device is very simple and durable in construction, can be cheaply manufactured, and readily applied, as above specified.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- 1. A desk attachment, comprising a plate having a top and bottom member for clamping said plate to the top of the desk, and a retaining-surface on said top member of said plate and adapted .to be engaged by the arm of the Writer, substantially as shown and described.
2. A desk attachment, comprising a plate having an apertured top member and a bottom clamping member, and a lining on the inner surface of said plate and extending under the opening of said top member to form a roughened surface on the top member, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES FREDRIQK NESSE.
