IMPROVEMENT IN BAG-FASTENERS.

th s .stl thnlt ttittl'th in in tlgtse ittttrs intuit imh tinting nd of tilt sinus.

Be it known that I, JAMES hIILLl-IR, of Ovid, in the county of Clinton, and State of Michigan, haveinvented a new and useful Machine'or Combination for Fastenin the Mouths of Grain and other Bo s when in use' and I a Y I do hereby declare that the Following is a full and exact description thereof, reference heing had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon. V

Letter A is a piece of sole-leather or other substantial material, tln-cc-i'ourths of an inch over, and pierced with four holesftwo small ones to admit a string to attach said leather to hag, and twolarger to admit the string with which thehag is to be tied. Letter B is a string. of leather or strong cord, the use of which is explained in the drawing marked l). Letter 0 an iron hook, with an eye, as represented, to receive the string which is to be permanently attached to said hook by tying; and when the string is properly adjusted said hook is to be hooked into the bag at any convenient place to prevent the string from slipping. Letter shows the manner of applying the string to the piece of sole-leather, represented at a. At the lower righthand hole in said piece will be seen a knot on thcend ot' the string, said knot being large enough to prevent it from slipping through the hole. The other end of the string is passed through the lower left-hand hole of said piece, being inserted on the side ofsaid piece opposite above-described knot. To this end of the string is attached the hook described at letter C. Letter E represents a bag fastened with the .a-bo veumchine or combination. Lettersff show the string with which the piece of sole-leather is attached to the bag.

Mode of Application.

Gather up the mouth of the bag, and then draw the string out as represented at letter I), and slip it over the mouth of the bag; take hold of the end of the string at the hook and draw it up tight; then pass the string in the opposite direction from the knot-ted cnd two or three times round the mouth of the bag. and insert the hook in the bag at any convenient place.

What. I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The piece of sole-leather'br other substantial material, a, the leather strings or other strong cords, B and ff, and the iron hook C, combined and arranged substantially as described.
