GATE.
(Application filed Feb. 28, 1898.)

UNITED STATES PATENT OEEicE.
HENRY F. CONDON, OF DE KALB, ILLINOIS.
GATE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 656,390, dated August 21, 1900.
Application filed February 28, 1898- Serial No. 672,064. (No model.)
to describe and will then particularly point out in the claims.
Figure l is an elevation, partly in section,
of a gate proper embodying my invention in one form. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view of the same, taken on the line 5 5 of Fig. 4. Fig. 3 is an end elevation of the gate, illustrating in partial section a modified form thereof; and Fig. 4 is an elevation of one-half of the gate-frame detached, the connecting tubes or rods being shown in position.
The gate proper (indicated as a whole by 21) is preferably constructed in the manner shown in detail in the drawings. It consists of a frame constructed of tubing or metal pipe in two equal and similar sections 22, bent to the shape shown in Fig. 4. These sections are placed end to end, being joined or connected by means of pieces of pipe, tubing, or rods 23. These latter are first firmly inserted in the hollow interiors of the ends of one section of the frame, a portion thereof projecting, as shown in Fig. 4, and the other section is then forced over these projecting ends, thereby coveringandconcealing theconnecting-pieces 23 and at the same time firmly uniting the two sections of the frame. If desired, a further connection of the parts may be eifected, as shown in Fig. 3, by threading the exterior ends of the sections and connecting the same by a right and left threaded sleeve 24. The two sections of the frame of the gate are firmly held together and united by means of vertical cross-pieces or straps 25, which extend from the top to the bottom of the gate at the center thereof and which are connected to the sections of the frame by eyebolts 26, which pass through the frame-sections and receive nuts 27 on the outside thereof, whereby the structure may be tightened. Diagonal brace- .rods 28 may be employed, and the frame of the gate will be covered with a suitable wovenwire netting.
It is obvious that various modifications in the details of the construction set forth may be made without departing from the principle of my invention, and I therefore do not wish to be understood as limiting myself strictly to the precise construction hereinbefore described, and shown in the drawings.
I claim-- 1. A gate-frame constructed in two sections of pipe, each bent to form one-half of the frame, and tubes or rods fitting within the open meeting ends of said sections and serving to unite the same, substantially as described.
2. A gate-frame,comprising two similarsections formed of pipe, each bent to form onehalf of the frame, tubes or rods over which the meeting ends of said sections fit, and means connecting said sections and adapted to draw and hold them together, substantially as described. I
HENRY F. OONDON. Witnesses:
FREDERICK G. Goonwm, IRVINE MILLER.
