Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 70,076, dated October 22, 1867.

To all whom 'it may concern:

Beit known that I, JEEEMIAE DEAN, of West Roxbury, in the county of Norfolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Metallic Pavement for Streets and Highways; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull and exact description thereof:

The nature of my invention consists in forming the pavement-blocks of convenient size, with grooves and projections of any shape, fitting each other, by which the whole mass is sustained on a uniform level, and a keyblook with perpendicular dovetails binding the whole together, allowing sueient space for the expansion of metals, reference being had to the annexed drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification, in Which- Sheet l is a pla-n. Sheet 2-Figure lis e side view, showing the grooves E E and the dovetail slot D. Fig. 2 is a side view, showing the ribs or oa-rs A A and the slot D. Fig. 3 is a transverse section, Fig. 4 is a View of the under side of the key-block, showing the plan of the perpendicularV dovetails B (l. Fig. 5 is an end View, showing the projection A and slot D and groove E. Fig` 6 is a side View of the key-block, showing the perpendicular dovetails B C.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

riihe construction and arrangement, in all its parts, of a metallic pavement, as described.
