FASTENING DEVICE FOR lRONlNG-BOARDS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N Q. 718,026, dated January 6, 1903.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ELIZA R. ROBINSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Woodburn, in the county of Warren and State of Kentucky, have invented new and useful Improvements in Fastening Devices forlroning- Boards, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in furniture, but more particularly to an improved means for attaching an ironing-board to a table or other support in a simple and inexpensive manner.

The object of the invention is to provide a cheap, durable, and efficient fastening for an ironing-board whereby the same may be con veniently supported above the floor and attached to a table or other support.

With this object in view the invention consists in the novel construction of parts and combination of parts, all of which will be specifically described hereinafter, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and defined in the claim. l t

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the table, showing an ironing-board applied. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the various parts of my invention. Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view of the loop member, and Fig. 4. is a plan view of the bracket.

The reference-numeral 1 designates a table or support of any preferred construction to which is secured a bracket, which comprises a single piece of iron bent to form two parallel inwardly-projecting arms 3 and 4, the forward end of each arm being curved to form a loop 5 or 5 and connected by a cross-bar 6, intermediate the ends ofwhich is an eye 7. From the free ends of the bracket project two upwardly-extending tines 8 and S, which are adapted to be embedded into the wood, while a nail or screw may be driven through the eye 7 and into the wood to hold the members securely in place. i

Secured to the board 9 and at one end thereof is the other member of the fastening device, which comprises two parallel bars 10 and 10, formed with eyes 11 and 11, from which project two converging portions 12 and 12, at the apex or meeting ends of which is an eye The forward and free ends of thebars 10 and 10 terminate in two downwardly-projecting extensions 14 and 14, which are designed to engage the loops 5 and 5" of the opposite member of the fastening device, the eyes being designed to receive screws or nails, whereby the member may be fastened to the ironing-board.

Near the end of the ironing-board and opposite the one on which the fastening device is secured is a loop 15, designed to be engaged by a laterally-projecting lip 16 on the end of a removable standard 17. This standard may be employed for supporting one end of the board and may be readily removed by drawing the lip out of engagement with the loop.

It will be apparent that by utilizing means similar to those described by me for supporting the board an ordinary ironing-board may be equipped with means whereby it may be readily fastened to a table or other support in the most convenient manner. It will also be apparent that the fastening devices as constructed are cheap, durable, and will efficiently perform the service for which they are intended.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- A fastening device comprising a member having two parallel side bars, upwardly-projecting ends forming tines, at one end of the bars, the other ends being formed with loops and connected by a transverse bar intermediate the ends of which is an eye, andanother member comprising parallel bars having downwardly-projecting extensions to engage the loops, said bars being connected at their opposite ends and formed with eyes whereby they may be secured to their support.
