Be it known that 1, JAMES T. BARKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Westplains, in the county of Howell and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Trace-Buckle, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to means for conlarly traces and back-bands of harness.

The principal object is to provide a novel, simple, and inexpensive device that can be readily applied to the straps and constitutes an effective lock for securing them in place.

The preferred form of construction is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure l is an elevation of the device, showing the same applied to the straps. Fig. 2 is a sectional view therethrough on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional view on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective view of the buckle.

Similar reference-numerals designate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawings.

In the structure disclosed the buckle consists of a body-plate 5, that is substantially square. Certain of the opposite edges of this plate are provided with strap-engaging loops 6, offset at one side of the plate, the outer edges of said loops being disposed at substantially equal distances from the plate. Cther loops 7 and 8 project from the other opposite edges of the plate and are offset at the same side as the loops 6. The loop 7 is larger than the loops 6, and its outer edge is disposed at a greater distance from the plate than the same. The loop 8 is preferably but slightly offset, as clearly shown in Fig. 2. Strap-engaging pins 9 and 10 project from the same side of the plate, the pin 9 being disposed in line with the loops 7 and 8 and out of line with the opening through the loops 6. On the other hand, the pin 10 is in line with the loops 6, but is out of line with the opening through the loops 7 and 8.

In using the device one of the strapsas, for instance, a back-band 11is passed through the loops 6, and the pin 10 is engaged in one of the openings thereof. The trace or other angularly-disposed strap 12 passes through the loop 7 and over the loop 8, the pin 9 engaging in any one of a series of openings in said strap 12. The usual hametrace is shown at 13 and is provided with a holding-link 14, which link is passed through the loop 8 and engages over the trace. hen the parts are so associated, it will be observed that the trace 12, passing over the strap 11, securely maintains the same in position and prevents its detachment from the pin 10. The link 14, in turn surrounding the trace 12 directly adjacent to the pin 9, effectively holds this strap against detachment. As a result the parts are securely locked together, and it will be evident by reference to Fig. 3 that the device is exceedingly simple and can be cheaply manufactured.

From the foregoing it is thought that the construction, operation, and many advantages of the herein-described invention will be apparent to those skilled in the art without further description, and it will be understood that various changes in the size, shape, proportion, and minor details of construction may be resorted to within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A device of the character set forth comprising an angular body having loops at its opposite edges that are all o'll'set at one side of said body, and strap-engaging pins projecting from the same side of the body at which the loops are offset, each pin being in line with certain of the opposite loops and out of line with the openings through the others.

2.
