UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented oct'. s, 1907.
Application filed August 3,1906. Serial No. 329,035.
'lhe invention comprises a curtain pole consisting of two separable sections provided with novel means for detacliably connecting said sections together, and for securing the curtains between the sections.
The construction of the improvement will be fully described hereinafter in connection with the accompal11 ying drawing and its novel features will be defined in the appended claims.
In the drawing, Figure l is a front elevation of a curtain pole embodying the invention, Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same, Fig. 3 is a top plan of one section of the pole, Fig. 4 is an elevation of the inner side of the other section, and Fig. 5 is a transverse vertical section of the pole. V
The pole consists of two sections designated respectively by the reference numerals 1 and 2, each of which is preferably of semi-circular form in cross section. 'lhe section l is provided with a series of pins 3 projecting from its inner flat face in horizontal alinement and the other pole section 2 is formed with openings 4, so spaced apart as to register with the pins 3 which project into said openings. Each of the two-pole sections is provided at its upper side near one end with a lng 5, thus providing a lug at each end of the completed pole when the sections are connected.
Before the two sections are pt together the curtains are hung upon the pins 3, after which the section 2 is placed upon the section 1, the pins fitting into the openings 4 as above stated. To secure the sections to-4 gether I provide end caps or ferrules each formed with a bayonet slot 7, said slots being oppositely disposed as shown. These securing caps or ferrules afford a simple convenient, and effective means for detachabiy connecting the pole sections, and the device as a whole provides a very simple and attractive curtain support which may be manufactured at small expense.
As shown, .the pins 3 are simply small nails driven through the section 1 and into the section 2, thereby providing, when the sections are separated, the projor-ting portion of the pin and the corresponding opening in the opposing section. No particular care need be taken in positioning the pins along the section, since the sections, being separable only in a direction cor- I responding witli the longitudinal axis of the pinfs,re
quire no enlarging f the openings to receive the pide,
such as would he required were the separat i )u ot iu .-r ihn in a direction which will preserve the parallel relation-g ship of the faces of the sections as long as the pins rcmain within the openings. As the lugs are readily placed in position, and the end caps are readily formed, it will be obvious that the structure is one which is extremely simple, of low cost of manufacture and durable. And should it be found, in use, that suiiicient pins are not initially provided, it is necessary only to drive additional nails through section l without requiring the removal of the sections such as would be required to prepare or enlarge the opening to receive it. And obviously, the saine course can be pursued in case the projecting ends of the pins should become broken eti' off should it not be desired to take the time to remove nection with end caps in whichthe bayonet slots have their lateral recesses extending in opposi'tedirections,
when applied to the opposite ends of the poleca` uses the operator to move the caps in opposite directions when binding the sections together and insuring a close fitting ofthe sections so that the opposing faces of the sections aid in supporting the curtain in position.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Pa'tnt, isz-` 1. A curtain pole comprising` two semi-circular sections having cooperating pins and openings located respectively in the two sections, each section having `a flat face, said faces opposing und lying parallel with each other, and separable only in a direction correspondingwith the longitudinal axisof the pins to preserve the `parallel relationship of tbe faces, lugs carried by the sections adjacent the ends thereof, Aand end-caps having bayonet slots to receive the lugs. i
2. A curtain pole compi-Ising two equal semi-circular hulf sections, one provided longitudinally of its dat, face with a series of openings, pins passed entirely through the other section and projecting beyond the fiat face thereof und adapted to be recelved 'in said openings, said .sections having their faces lying parallel withl each other :and separable only in a direction corresponding with the longil iudinal axis of the plus to preserve the parallel'relation-v ship of the faces, a lug projecting from each section 'near the end thereof, the lug of one section being nt the end opposite to the lug on the Aother section, and end caps for said section bovini; bayonet slots to receive said lugs, 4said slots having their lateral recesses extending in opposite directions, substantially as shown und described.
Iu testimony whereof I utiix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
