Specification of Letters Patent.

Patented Dec. 17, 1907.

Application filed April 4. 1907. Serial No. 366,436.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, MURIEL EDITH MAUD REIsoHER, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at 45-46 Gutter Lane, London, England, have invented a new or limproved (landlestick and Candle-Holder, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to a candle stick or candle holder of the kind wherein a spring split tube is provided into which the candle is directly inserted, such spring tube being retained in position upon the candle stick or candle holder by a flange or cap forming part of the candle stick.

Hitherto in candle sticks or candle holders of this kind the split tube has usually been formed of a number of sections retained together by a spring, and means were not provided for removingthe tube, for the purpose of cleaning the same.

The object of my invention is to provide a simpler construction of split tube than here tofore and also to provide means whereby the said tube can be readily removed for cleaning purposes.

In the accompanying drawing :Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of a candle .stick or candle holder provided with my improvements, and Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view of the same.

a is the base or tray of the candle stick or candle holder and b is the standard thereof, the said standard having at the upper end a socket c terminating in a flange d.

c is the split tube which is inserted into the said socket c the said split tube being made of a single piece of steel or other material tapered or flared out at one end so as to form a flange f which will lie upon the flange d and having its edges overlapped to such an eX tent that they will not separate upon the insertion oi the largest candle designed to be inserted into the candle stick.

g is a cap which is adapted to be slipped on to or otherwise detachably applied to the flange d, the said cap or lid having in it a hole It through which the candle can be inserted; the said hole, however, is smaller than the flange f of the split tube so as to retain the said split tube in position. As shown in the drawing the cap g is at one side hinged to the flange d at i, and at the other side provided with a catch j which will engage over the edge of the flange cl of the socket. With this construction it will be understood that in case any grease enters the split tube it will not be liable to interfere with the proper working of the same and it will also be understood that by removing the cap 9 the said split tube 6 can be readily removed to clean it.

The candle holder shown with a dish a and standard I) is only given as an example, it being obvious that the general shape and construction of these parts can be varied as desired, and the dish can be entirely dispensed with.

Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is In a candle stick, thecombination with a socket portion, of a resilient candle holder comprising a tube split longitudinally and having its edges overlapped, said candle holder fitting within said socket portion and having outwardly extending portions for engaging and bearing upon the upper edge of said socket portion and a cap hinged at one side to said socket portion and provided on its opposite side with a catch for detachably engaging said socket portion, said cap being adapted to clamp said holder to said socket portion and having an orifice therein in line with said tubular holder, substantially as described.
