HANS THOMPSON AND HERBERT I. FOWLER, OF SPRING VALLEY, MINNESOTA" GARMENT ATTACHIVIENT.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HANS THOMPSON and HERBERT I. FOWLER, citizens of the United States, residing at S ring Valley, in the county of Filmore an State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful I1n rovements in Garment Attachments; and do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to whichit ap pertains to make and use the same.
Our invention relates to attachments for garments and our object is to provide means for increasing or decreasing the waist measure of trousers.
A further object is to provide means for locking the parts in their adjusted position.
Other objects and advantages will be hereinafter referred to and more particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the accom anying drawings which are made a part of t iis application, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing our improved device in its operative position on a. pair of trousers. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a portion of the trousers showing our improved device secured thereto and on an enlarged scale. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one portion of the securing device, showing the same attached to the trousers, and, Fig. 4 is V a perspective view of the opposite portion of the securing device.
Referring to the drawings in which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, 1 indicates a pair of trousers, which may be con? structed in the usual or any preferred manner and 2 indicates the flap employed in forming the pocket of the trousers and in orde o permit the waist band 3 of the trousers to be adj tasted to increase or decrease the size of the waist band, a portion of the upper edge of the flap is left free of the band, while the remainder of the tie is stitched or otherwise secured to the banr That portion of the band adjacent the loose portion of the flap 2 is provided with a kee er 4, which is secured to the band in any pre erred manner, as by entering threads 5 through the band and through openings 6 in Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 7, 1907.
Patented May 5, 1908.
Serial No. 401,148.
the keeper, while to the loose portion ofthe flap 2 is secured a plate 7 having at its central ortion a stem 8, to the outer end of whic is secured a substantially diamond shaped head 9.
The body of the keeper 4 is provided with a plurality of substantially diamond shaped slots 10, which extend at right angles to the longitudinal )lane of the head 9, so that in introducing tie head through the slots, the loose portion of the flap is twisted to brim the head 9 in alinement with the slots 10 and after the head is introduced through the slots, the flap is restored to its normal position and the head turned at right angles to the slots, thereby securely locking the plate to the keeper and retaining the band in its adjusted osition.
The keeper 4 is so located on the band 3, that when the head 9 is in en agement with the slot 10 in that end of the e eper nearest the flap 2, the band3 will be extended to its fullest capacity and in reducing the size of the band, the plate 4 is moved longitudinally towards the secured portion of the flap, untll the band has been reduced to the proper size when the head is introduced through the adj acent slot and the parts of the trousers held in their adjusted position, that ortion of the band between the keeper am. the secured portion of the fia being placed in folds, as )est shown at 1 1 in Fig. 2 of the drawings.
It will be clearly understood that there is to be a keeper and cooperating head therefor at each side of the trousers, so that by adjusting the heads at opposite sides of the trousers in corresponding slots, in the respective keepers, the normal shape of the trousers will be retained and it will further be seen that the trousers may be readily and quickly ad'usted to fit a larger or smaller waist and it Wiil also be seen that the device may be cheaply constructed and readily attached to the garment.
What we claim is:
Trousers having a flap opposite the pocket- .opening, a Waist-band of suitable material, connecting said trousers and flap to ether at the top edges and adapted to be fol ed u on itself with the adjustment of the flap, a p ate having oblong 0 enings therein, fastened to name to this specification i the presence of said trousers at t e waist and a button-memtwo subscribing witnesses.-
ber ada ted to engage any one of said open- HANS THOMPSON. v .ings an assume a locking action therewith HERBERT I. FOWLER.
