S E w M W W mamas (HOME-R. HARVEY FULTON, or CHICO, CALIFORNIA.
\ i To all whom it may concern."
Be itknown that I, HOMER HARVEY FUL- TON, a citizen of. the United States, ands resident of Chico, in the county of Butte and State of California, have invented a new and Improved Fin er-Shield, of which the following is a full, car, and exact description. ,Tlus invention has for its purpose the pro- I vision of a finger shieldfor the use of persons manner in which several shields are applied preplarator jito' eating, I Fig. 2 is a plan of onset t who by force of circumstances are compelled to eat with unwashed hands. i
The invention further contain lates. aashield of such material as paperj w ichwill expand to fit fingers of various size/sand fric;
tionally embrace the same to such an extent,
e shie (ifsiwhen' fiat tened out; andiFig. 3 is a fragmentary'longitudinal section of my improved-shield when cheap; such material as crime I paper I find admirably adapte' for this pur ex anded. v
i n the construction of. my improved shield, I preferably employa thin sheet materialof an elastic nature which is com aratively pbse. This is made into a stall or jacket 5, of such size as to neatly fit a. finger of average size, asbestshown in Fig. 2. The inner or open end ofthis jacket isprefera'bl Q eut ofi at an inclination and then folded-mwardly upon itself to rovide "an'inwardl'ydurned flange 6; A jac ket thus constructed will, in
view of the crim s .or corrugations in the aper, ex and to; t various s ze fingers, and notional y embracethe same to such an extent, -as to the finger W Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed October 25,1907. Serial 116,399,121.
. crape paper, to closely fit the or crapev Patented May so, 1908.
'the jacket with the finger will also be augmented by .the flange 6, the. latter additionally serving to strengthen the jacket around the entrance opening. I j.
. By cutting off the endsof the fingers at an inclination, as shown in Fig. 3, and then fiattening them out, as in Fig. 2, the jacket may be conveniently o en'ed out and the. insertion of the fin er therein facilitated, as is obvious.
Instea .of constructingthe shield from crape paper, the same may be first made of plain paper or other fibrous material, and the crimps or corrugations thereafter formed herein. The character of material may also econ' siderably modified without de arting from the naturebf my invention as dei m the claims annexed; j
' Having, thus described my invention, I secure by Letters claim as new and desireto Patent:
ed in 1.- A finger shield comprisin" a jacket of ger, having the entrance opening thereof cut off at an angle'a'nd provided with an internal flange,
for the purpose described.
2. A finger -shield comprising a jacket of corrugated sheet material, with the corru ations extending substantially lon itudina y of the jacket and approximately t iroughout its length, whereby the corrugations adapt the diameter of the jacket to be expanded to fit fin ers of different sizes.
I finger shield comprising a jacket hav- I -30 ing the edge of its'inner or open end arranged at an inclination thereto such that when the shield is flattened one side thereof will extend beyond the other side, whereby the opening out of the shield isfacilitated. f In testimonyfwhereof 'I have signed my nameto this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
