Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, ERNEST E. HOWE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Battle Creek, in the county of Calhoun and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Core Compounds; and I do hereby declare the followmg to been full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to core compounds for use in foundries.
It has for' its object among others to pro I duce a successful dry compound which dispenses with the use of flour, resin and linseed Oll 1n making cores.
My compound consists of the following ingredients which are combined in the propertions stated and thoroughly mingled by agitation, viz: 1 part asphalt, 1 part sea coal, (also known as foundry facing) 8 parts. salt.
A core compound consisting of the following ingredients combined substal'itially in the proportions stated, namely, 1 part asphalt, 1 part sea coal, and 8 parts salt.
