Specification of Letters Patent.

Patented Nov. 2, 1909.

Application filed December 14, 1908. Serial No. 467,378.

To all whom it may concern: I

Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. SOLES, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Hair-Dryin Apparatus, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of the invention is to provide.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming apart of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.

Figure l is a side elevation of the imrovement, parts bein broken out; Fig. 2 1s a front elevation o? the same; Fig. 3 is a cross section of the same on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 4 is a rear end view of the motor, the wires and switch for the same and the wires for the electric lamps.

The motor A of an electric fan is mounted in a suitable tubular casing B provided at its bottom with a :socket C for engagement with the pright of a stand D, to convenientl s pport the apparatus on a table e. The top 0 the casing B is provided with a handle E adapted to be taken hold of by the user for conveniently carryin the ;apparatus about and manipulating t e same whenever it is not desired to support it on the stand D.

The fan wheel F of the electric fan is mounted in the front end B of the casing B, somewhat in advance of openings B formed inthe wall of the casing B for the entrance of air to the fan wheel F, the latter on r0- tating driving the air forward into and through a hood G, in the form of a reflecting g obe and having its rear central ortion G apertured and flanged and secure to the forward end B of the casing B, as plainly shown in Fig. 1. The forward end of the hood G is open and the inner surface thereof is preferably a reflecting surface, and within the hood G is arran ed a cluster of electric lamps H having bu be of different colors, preferably red, white and blue. The rear ends of the electric lamps H are mounted on a tubular support- I for the passage of electric wires J, the tubular support I having a longitudinally extending branch arm I attached to one side of the casing B, so as to properly support the electric lamps within the hood G. The wires J extend rearwardly through the branch support I, and are formed with the wires J for the motor A, into an insulated cord J, having means for convenient attachment to a source of electrical energy, so that the motor A is actuated at the same time that the electric lamps H are lighted, whereby a currentof air is forced by the fan wheel F forward through the hood G and over the electric lamps H, whereby the air is heated by the heat emanating from the electric lamps H, the heated air being discharged through the front open end of the hood G and directed onto the hair to be dried, together with the X rays of light emanating from the electric lamps H andreflected by the hood G in the same direction in which the heated current of air travels to the hair. Thus by the arrangement described the hair is subjected to the heated air and also to the light reflected by the reflector G, itbeing understood that the said light serves as a valuable thera peutic agent, without danger of fading or injuring the hair. The motor wires J are provided with a switch J, to permit cutting out the motor A without cutting out the electric lamps H.

The ap aratus shown and described is very simp e and durable in construction, and the apparatus can be readily manipulated so as to direct the heated current of air as well as the light, to the hair to be dried. P

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A hair-drying apparatus, comprising a hood having a re ectin inner surface and open at the front, an e ectric lamp in the said hood, the rays of light emanating from the said lam bein reflected through the open end of t e hoo and a fan at the rear of the hood for forcin a current of air over the said lamp to heat t e air and to force the heated air out of the open end of the saidan electric fan mounted in a casing, a reflecting hood held on the said fan casing, the

said hood being 0 en at the front end and having its rear en provided with an opening in register with the discharge opening of the fan casing, and a cluster of electric lamps arranged in the said hood for heating the air forced throu h the hood by the sai fan, the rays of lig lit emanating from the said electric lamps being reflected by the hood in the direction of the travel of the current of heated air.

3. A hair-drying apparatus, comprising an electrician mounted in a casin a reflecting hood held on the said fan casin the said hood being 0 en at the front on and having its rear en provided with an opening in register with the discharge 0 ening of the fan casing, a clusterof electric amps arranged in the said hood for heatin the air forced through the hood by'thesaiffan, the rays of light emanating from the said elecseams trio lamps being reflected bfy the hood in the direction of the travel 0 the current of heated air, and electric supply wires for the said motor and the said electric lamps and arranged for connection with the same source of electricity supply. I

4. A hair dryin apparatus, comprising a lamp, a fan hehin the lamp for forcing the current of air over the said lamp to heat the air, and arhood inclosing the lamp and having a reflecting surfacefor the purpose set forth, said hood having an openlng to perlmit the passage of air from the fan to the amp.
