Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 12, 1910.
Application filed September 3, 1909. Serial No. 516,141.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMELIA F. KANDL- BINDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Shreveport, in the parish of Caddo and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hat- Hangers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in hat holders designed for attachment to various objects such as the seats in a theater or church, and so arranged that when not in use, it may be folded.
The invention comprises various details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a hat in dotted lines as applied to my holder, and Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal view showing parts in elevation.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a wire which is bent preferably to form a hook A at one end, and thence turned into a loop B for the reception of the pivotal aw D, which latter has an eye D formed at one end for engagement with said loop, and a second eye D formed by bending the wire forming the jaw, and thence is bent to form an elongated loop E which straddles the wire A and serves to limit the outer throw of said jaw. The wire A is bent to form a resilient coil F and has a jaw H formed at one end thereof. The wire adjacent to the jaw H is bent to form a loop H, and K designates a wire which is fastened to said loop H,
passes through the jaw D and has a loop N formed at right angles to the length of said wire K, a portion of the latter being bent to form an eye 0 through which the wire A is guided.
In operation, the device may be hung or fastened in any suitable way upon any object and when it is desired to hang a hat thereon, the two jaws are brought together by drawing up upon the loop formed at right angles at the upper end of the wire K, the two aws are caught inside the crown of the hat and when pressure is relieved from the wire K, the resiliency of the coil will cause the aws to return to their normal positions, and thus frictionally engage and hold the hat.
IVhat I claim to be new, is
1. A hat holder comprising a wire which is bent to form a resilient coil and terminating in a jaw, a second jaw pivotally mounted upon the loop formed in said wire, a second wire fastened to the jaw formed at the end of the wire with a coil therein, and forming means for drawing the two jaws together, a portion of the wire forming said second jaw bent to form a loop which is adapted to limit its throw in one direction, as set forth.
2. A hat holder comprising a wire bent to form a transverse loop and provided with a resilient coil, the end of the wire bent to form a jaw, a second aw pivotally mounted upon said transverse loop and means for limiting the throw of the jaw, a second wire fastened to said wire with the loop therein and having a laterally extending loop with an eye therein serving as a guide for the first mentioned wire, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
EMELIA F. KANDLBINDER.
