ATTACHMENT FOR BARREL-TAPS.
Application filed September 28, 1910.
T o all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, Mioiiann J. Zwos'iA, a citizen of the United States of America, and Gor'iniiin SonHNonN, a citizen of the German Empire, both residing in the city of New York, in the borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Attachments for Barrel-Taps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in attachments for barrel-taps, by which the leakage at the bushing of the tap-liole, through which the draft-tube is di'iveii into the barrel, is obviated and thereby the socalled getting flat of the beer or other fermented liquor in the barrel, due to the escape of the carbonio acid gasuis prevented; and for this purpose the invention consists of an attachment for barrel-taps, which oo mprises a ring-shaped collar provided with an elastic packing-ring or gasket placed over the bushing of the tap-hole and pressed thereon or released therefrom by two c amlevers, which are fulciuinedhto supportingstraps, and connected by pivot-links with lugs on the collar, so that the escape ofl gas at Ythe bushing is prevented, as will be fully described hereinafter and finally pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of a barrel, showing our improved attachment for barrel-taps in position on the tap-hole and busliing of the same. Fig. 2 is a side-elevation ofthe attachment for barrel-taps, shown on a larger scale and partly in section through the elastic packing and the bushing of the tap, and Fig. 3 is a. plan-view, partly in scction on the line 3 3, Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawings, a represents a barrel for beer or fermented liquids. Into the bushing of the tap-hole, which is located in the head a of the barrel a, is driven a faucet or tap cl of the usual construction, through which the draftpipe e is inserted. The draft-pipe e is of suiicient length to extend to near the bottom of the barrel. The bushing b is screwed into the tap-hole of the head, and closed by a wooden plug b in the usual manner. A rubber tube f is connected with the upper part of the tap (l for Specification of Letters Patent.

supplying air or carbonio acid gas under pressure to the interioi' of the barrel, and force the contents of the same through the draft-tube c by a connecting pipe c to the discharge-faucet at the bar where the beer is drawn oil".
Around the lower tapering end cl of the barrel-tap (Z is arranged a collar c, which is provided at diametrically-opposite points with two pairs of lugs c, that are connected by two pairs of pivot-links a2 with two outwardly-bent straps g. To the supporting straps and the upper ends of the pivotlinks are fulcrumed two cani-levers g that ai'e arranged diametrically to 'the tap, as shown clearly in Figs. 2 and The inner ends of the cam-levers y', adjacent to the faucet or tap (Z, are made eccentric to the fulcra of the same and slightly concaved, so that. a camaction is exerted on the tap when the levers f/ are moved in downward direction .into the position shown in Fig. 2. In the collar c is sprung an elastic packing 79 of soft rubber or other suitable material, which is firmly pressed by the cani-levers, connecting pivot-links and collar c Onto the lower part of the tap and over the wooden plug 7) and bushing b, so that any possibility of the escape of gas from the barrel, which may he due to the splitting or other injuring of the plug in driving the tap through the same is prevented and thereby the beer or other liquid kept in perfectly fresh and good condition.
By the attachment described, which can be supplied at a comparatively small expense, the tight connection of the barreltap with the bushing and plug of the barrel is obtained, so that the so-called getting flat of the fermented liquid, due to the escape of the carbonio acid gas, is prevented. The attachment can be readily released from the tap and bushing by moving the camlevers into raised position in the direction of the arrows shown in Fig. 2, whereby the collar and packing-ring are lifted away from the tap-hole, so that the barrel-tap and draft-tube can be removed from the empty barrel and inserted into the tap-hole of another barrel, upon which the attachment is 4again placed in position on the tap and tap-hole by moving the cam-levers in downward direction and pressing the packing-ring firmly onto the tap and over the tap-hole of the barrel.
