UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH GALLINGER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A DRINKING-GLASS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 17,795,dated October 18, 1887,
Application filed August 17, y1887. Serial No. 247,216. Term of patent years.
To all whom. it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH GALLINGER, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Drinking-Glasses, of which the following is a specification.
In the drawing accompanying and forming part of this application the figure is a side elevation of a drinking-glass embodying my invention.
`In the said drawing, the reference-numeral 1 denotes the body of the glass, which slightly contracts from the base upward for a distance less than one-fourth the height, and then swells outward, forming an extension, 2, which is in turn surmounted by a second contraction, 3, having a less diameter than any other part of the glass. Above this second contractionis formed a second swell, 4, at or about the middle portion of the glass, and from the latter point the body curves very gently inward, as at 5, and thence expands to its greatest diameter at the rim, the expansion from the point being by uniform degrees.
I prefer to make these glasses of thin plain material; but they may be made of any substance and ornamented in any desired manner.
This design is closely allied to that shown in another case iled of even date herewith, and
numbered in serial 21L7,2l7.l
IIeretofore earthenware pitchers and candlesticks have been made having different exterior diameters or swelled portions, and I make no claim, broadly, to such a design.
Vhat I claim is The design for a drinking-glass shown and described, the same consisting of a body, l,
having contractions 3 and 5 and expanded portions 2 and et alternating therewith.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
