DESlGN.

W. W HAYDEN.

MATCH BOX. No. 21,635. Patent-ed June 21,1892.

A T TORNE Y UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 'WILLIAM \V. HAYDEN, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.

DESlGN FOR A MATCH-BOX.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 21,635, dated June 21, 1892.

Application filed May 13. 1892. Serial No. 432,928. Term of patent 35 3 years- To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM W. HAYDEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Match-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which the figure illustrates my newly-designed match-box or receptacle for small artieles.

My new design relates both to the form and the ornamentation of the body and cover; and the leading feature consists of foliated reliefwork occupying the bottom and one side of the body, the remaining portion being plain or bordered, with heads at the edge of the box, terminating in scrolls upon the plain surface. The cover is ornamented in the same order with a curved marginal bead, terminating in a scroll at one corner.

A represents the body of the box, and B the lid or cover. The body A in general outline approximates a parallelogram with irregular sides, showing outward and inward curves at a and b b, rounded corners c (1, straight bottom e, and straight top f. The

edge 11 shows two beads g h, which terminate in scrolls g h, one at the corner of the body, the other about midway of its length. The opposite side and bottom 0 form the margin of foliated ornamentation C, which occupies the bottom and somewhat less than one-half of the surface, the portion D between the heads 9 h and the shading I'of the ornamentation being a plain surface. The foliated ornamentation comprises several membersj Isl m of the volute order, the members gradually diminishing in length from the bottom to the top, member j occupying the whole bottom portion of the body. The cover 13 shows a curved top it and straight bottom edge 0, and is ornamented with a foliated serollp on a plain background. The margin shows a rounded head 1', which terminates in a scroll r at the corner of the cover adjacent to and in reverse curve to that of the scroll g at the corner of the body.

\Vhat I claim is The design for a match-box, herein shown and described.
