JAMES HOLMES AND KARL PETERSON, OF JAMECTOVVN, NEW YORK.

DESIGN FOR A HINGE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 22,875, dated November 7, 1893.

Application filed March 23, 1893. Serial No. 467,3 75. Term of patent 14 years.

To a whom it Duty concern.-

Be it known that we, JAMES HOLMES and KARL PETERSON, citizens of the United States,

residing at Jamestown, in the county of Chautauqua and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Hinges, of which the following is a specification.

The invention relates to a new and original design for butt hinges; and the essential feature resides in a hinge having its leaves provided with straight edges and rounded corners at the outer ends.

The figure of the drawing is a plan view of a hinge showing our original design.

Referring to the drawing, 1 designates a butt hinge, having leaves 2 and provided at the corners of the outer ends of the leaves 2 with curved edges 3. Between the curved edges 3, or rounded corners, are straight edges 5 and 6 extending along the ends and sides of the leaves of the hinge. The inner adjacent corners of the leaves are angular, and the inner longitudinal edges of the leaves are straight and parallel, and are arranged contiguous to and at opposite sides of a central longitudinal cylindrical pintle portion.

What we claim is The design for a hinge herein shown and described, the same comprising acentral longitudinally disposed continuous cylindrical pintle portion, and opposite leaves having straight parallel inner longitudinal edges arranged contiguous to and at opposite sides of the pintle portion, said leaves having its inner corners angular and its outer corners rounded and having continuous straight edges connecting the rounded portions, as set forth.

In testimony that we claim the foregoing as our own we have hereto affixed our signatures in the presence of two witnesses.

JAMES HOLMES. KARL PETERSON.
