PATENT OFFICE.

EDWARD B. FOX, OF BRYN MAWR, PENNSYLVANIA.

DESIGN FOR A TYPE-BORDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 23,341, dated June 12, 1894. Application filed February 1, 1894 Serial No. 498,800- Term of patent! years.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, EDWARD B. FOX, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bryn Mawr, in the county of Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Design for Type-Borders, of which the following is a specification.

My invention has relation to printed matter and has for its object the provision of a novel and attractive design for a type border for the same.

The nature of my design appears clearly in the accompanying drawing, the same consisting of a right angled figure whose opposite sides are parallel and formed by straight lines. Two of the four sides of said figure, or the lines which form the lower left hand corner thereof, have each a line of equal length parallel therewith which terminate in planes at the same angle, relatively to the ends of the lines which form the adjacent sides of said figure, as the angle of inclination of the diagonal lines which occupy the intervening space between them The effect of which diagonal lines and their alternating spaces being that the lines which form the four sides of the figure appear to be in a higher plane than the parallel lines aforesaid. Conducing to an appearance of thickness and an apparent standing out of the matter contained within the border, as though the same were printed on a block. Forming a striking and attractive border therefor.

What I claimas my invention, to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The design for a type border substantially as herein shown and described.

In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 26th day of January, A. D. 1894.

EDWARD B. FOX.
