IRVING SMITH, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO THE CRESCENT \VATOIICASE COMPANY, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.

DESIGN FOR A WATCHCASE-BACK.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,922, dated April 20, 1897.

Application filed May 5, 1896. Serial No. 590,380. Term of patent 3% years.

T0 at whom it may concern.-

Be itknown that I, IRVING SMITH, of New York city, in the county of New York, and in the State of New York, have invented a certain new and usefulDesign for Watchcase Backs or Covers, &c. and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a watchcase-back embodying my design, and Fig. 2 is a section through the same.

Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in each of the figures.

The object of my invention is to provide an effective design for the backs or covers of watchcases, lockets, &c. and to this end said invention consists in the design for a watchca-se-back or similar article, substantially as herein set forth.

The leading feature of my design is a curved concavity or depression at the edge of the back or cover, running entirely around the same and extending from the rim .of the back or cover up over the latter to a circular shoulder. As shown in the drawings, where it is designated by the letter A, the extent of said concavity in a radial direction is from the edge of the back or cover to about one-fifth of the distance to the center thereof, and a slight shoulder 01, marks its limit, or the innermost point to which it extends.
