UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.

EENJAMIN G. TAITE, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF, SAMUEL S. TAITE, AND SARAH G. TAITE, OF SAME PLACE.

DESIGN FOR A METALLIC BOX.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 28,413, dated March 29, 1898.

Application filed October 9, 1897. Serial No. 654,722. Term of patent 7 years.

To all whom it may concern.-

Beit known that I, BENJAMIN G. TAITE, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Design for a Metal Box, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.

My invention relates to a certain new and original design for a metal box, such as the small tin boxes commonly employed for packing powders, ointments, &c.

The leading feature of my design consists in a seamless cylindrical box having a flat bottom and a perfectly smooth exterior lateral surface, the planes of the vertical sides of the body of the box and of the lid meeting and coinciding without projection or circumferential shoulder or bead; also in the lid portion, havin gin its top face a depressed central portion bounded by a raised annular portion which is surrounded by an annular outwardly-beveled portion.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a box embodying my design, and Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same with the lid lifted from the body portion.

The letter A designates the body portion of the box, whose vertical side or wall a has a com pressed and inset rim portion 0 and a lower rounded edge I), made on as small an arc of a circle as possible.

D is the lid portion, having its vertical flange or side d equal in diameter to the diameter of the body of the box, so that the exterior plane surfaces thereof meet and coincide without bead or projection. The top face of the lid portion has a circular depressed central portion e, bounded by a raised annular portion g, which is in turn surrounded by a beveled annular portion h.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is The design for a metallic box, substantially as herein shown and described.

In testimony whereof I have hereunto affixed my signature this 1th day of October, A. D. 1897.

BENJAMIN G. TAITE.
