UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY EARTH, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE AMERICAN TYPE FOUNDERS COMPANY, OF NEIVARK, NEl/V JERSEY.
DESIGN FOR A FONT OF BORDER-TYPE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 29,479, dated October 11, 1898.
Application filed September 28, 1897- Serial No. 653,381. Term of patent '7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY EARTH, acitizen of the United States, and a resident of Cincinnati, Ohio, have invented and produced a certain new and useful Design for a Font of Border-Type,of which the following is a specification.
My design for a font of border-type is fully shown in the accompanying drawing.
The font comprises nine essential characters, which are shown in consecutive order in the drawing, beginning at the left.
The characteristic feature of my design for a font of border-type consists of solid linear representations formed in two groups, through both of which the said solid linear representation runs. The bases of both groups are geometrical figures formed by the solid linear representations, one of the groups being constructed upon a triangle as a basis and the other upon a circular figure. The first character consists of a half-circle open to the left, the second is a short horizontal straight line, the third is a short straight line slanting downward from left to right, the fourth is a quadrant of a circle bending downward from left to right and open to the left, the
fifth is a small solid circular figure at the center of and surrounded by a ring, the sixth is a solid equilateral triangle, the seventh is a solid circular figure of substantially the same diameter as the ring of the fifth character, the eighth is a quarter-circle bending upwardly from left to right and open to the left, and the ninth is a short straight line slanting upwardly from left to right.
It will be observed that the first, fourth, fifth, and eighth characters contain the curved solid linear representation comprised in the circular figure constituting the seventh character, while the remaining characters contain the solid rectilinear representation contained in the triangle constituting the sixth character.
I claim- The design for a font of border-type, as herein described and shown.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
