SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 31,079, dated June 27, 1899. Application filed April. 12, 1899. Serial No. 712,803. Term of patent 14 years.

Be it known that I, AUGUSTE 1. CLAUDE, a resident of Canton, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Cans, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming apart thereof.

As shown in the drawings, the leading or material features of my design consist in the uniform design of the can-body 1 and in the annular flange formed at the top of the can and the flaring opening or mouth thereof.

The can 1 is provided with the annular flange 2, which ann ular flange is provided With the plain and smooth top face 3, extending from the inner periphery of the opening or mouth 4 to the outer edge or peripher Y of the flange, and said flange being provided with the straight under edge 5, said straight under Fig. 2 is a verwhat I claim as new, and

edge being parallel with the top or upper face of said flange. The opening 4 tapers from the top of the flange 2 to the point 6, which forms the bottom of the mouth. From the point 7 a vertical portion 8 is formed, which vertical portion extends from the bottom or under side of the flange :3 to the curved portion 9 of the can, said curved portion being continued downward, as illustrated in the drawings.

Having thus fully described my invention, desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The design for a can as herein shown and described.
