Q) atut @time CHARLES PRATT, or NEW YORK, N. Y.
Design No. 3,358, dated Februar/ry 9, 1869.
DESIGN FOR THE TOP OR BOTTOM OF A SHEET-METAL CAN.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
T o all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES PRATT, of New York, in the county of New York, and State of New York,
4have invented a new and original Design for Bottoms or Tops of' Sheet-Metal Gans; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the ao companying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to an improved design of arrangement of the bottoms or tops of sheet-metal cans, for strengthening them, by means of' depressions and ridges in the sheets, the same being formed by stamping in dies.
The drawing represents a plan view of' a sheet stamped aeeordin to my improved design.
The whole su ace, inside the outer edge A, is depressed below the said edge, and a deep groove, B, formed around immediately within the said edge, jutting sharply into the corners at b, while the wall O,
rising inward from the groove., is rounded at the oorners, and is formed on a gradual incline to the top or plane, d, of an elevation extending around the sheet within the groove B, and outside of a broad groove, e, of less depth than the said groove B.
The walls of the groove e are inclined at about the same piteh as the inner wall of the groove B, and within the said groove the surface rises again to a plane, j, not quite as high as the surface of the plane d.
The walls of the groove e are angular at the ooruels g.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The design for the bottoms or tops of sheet-metal cans, herein set forth and shown.
