DESIGN FOR A. TOY BLOCK.
-bwk The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, JOEL A. H. ELLIS, of Springield, in the county of Wiudsorand State of Vermont,
have invented or produced a new and original Design for the Shape and Configuration of 'loy Blocks, and the following is declared to be n. correct description thereof.
This invention relates to the shape of blocks, such as are used by children in building toy houses, and.
otherwise amusing themselves, the shapes of the blocks being such as to interlock.
In the drawing- Figure l is a side view, and
Figure 2, a plan of the block in a single form.
Figures 3 and 4 are similar views in a double form,
Figure 5 is a plan, and
Figure 6, a side view ci' the interlocking blocks, to set into corresponding openings or recesses in the blocks, figs. 1, 2, 3, and 4.
The design of the shape and conliguration is a single or double square, the width and length being either equal or are twice the dimensions of the other, the thickness of the blocks'being about in the proportion shown.
The feature of novelty in the shape and configuration of my block d being in providing cubical corner pieces a y, of one-quarter the dimensions of the width of the block, thereby there will be openings left of one-half the width of the block, and into these openings the interlocking blocks b b can be introduced, said interlocking blocks being of H-shape, and the dimensions being once and a half the Width of the blocks d, and the center piece oi' the H-shape being one-hall' the measurement ofthe Width of said blocks d, and of a thickness nearly equal to twice the height of the corner block a, so as to interlock in setting the blocks together.
This shape and configuration of block can be used in building a great variety of toy-structures of a handsome character.
I claim as my invention- The design ofthe sha-pe and configuration of the in terloeking toy-blocks b b, as described and shown.
Signed by me this 18th day of April, A. D. 1870.
JOEL A H. ELLIS.
