DESIGN FOR BLACK-LEAD BLOCKS.

Specilcntion formingr part of Design No. 5,045, dated June 27, 1871.

To all whom it 'may concern:

Bc it known that I, 'WILLIAM COLLIER JAMES, of Plymouth, county of Devon, England, hnve invented and produced u new und original Design for Blocks of Black Lead, of which the following is a specification:

The nature of my design is fully represented in the accompanying illustration, to which reference is lnade; und lny invention consists in the shape or conguration of a deine, a, ns applied to the manufacture of blocks of black-lend or plumbugo in solid blocks b, which shape, as np plied to this purpose, is my invention, and which I have introduced to the trede under the inline of dome blacklead.

The above-named shape or configuration is more particularly shown in the drawing,- hereto annexed, and l consider the forni given to the said block or blocks to bc un improvement upon the shape of the blocks in which black lend is now lnaiuifnctured in solid blocks, since the forni given to the block by me renders it less liable to fracture during,` transportation und when in use. lt also has :t more elegant nppeurance.
