The nature ot' my design is fullbv represented in the Ieeompunying photographie illustrattion, to which attention is directed.

My invention Consists of :t simple stripe, bar, or band, the same being mottled in spots, and passingiwross the entire face of the hutton through the central patrt thereof.

I do not consider :my purtieuhtr color or shade of the stripe, ber, or hand, or of the remaining,` portions ot' the l'uee of the button, to be :1u essentiel element of' my design but onlyY that :i` segment ot' the i'uoe of the button passing through the centr-(tl part thereof shall be so dyed, colored, or pointed in relation to the remaining' segments, or the remaining segments shall be so dyed, colored, or pointed in relation to the central segment that, by the contrast ofthe colors used, the central November 24, 1874; application iiledhSeptemherQB,1574. teni 7 yeurs] l extending across the entire face ofthe button7 nud thut such stripe.y bnr, or hund, whutever muy he the prevailing or foundation eolor, shall he mottled in spots.

The stripe, bur, or hund passing through the centruil port of the i'uee of the button is not limited to any special width, neither is the contour of' the button nor the suri'uoe of the fuee thereof limited to any speeial shape or form.
