DESIGN -Fon A FAN.
Specilicnticn forming part of Design No. 8,364, dated June 1, 1875; application led Moy 19,1875. [Terni of Patent 311i years] To all whom t may concern:
Be it known tlint I, NATHAN METZ, of the city, county, and State of New York, have originated e Design for Fans, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which fully represents the nature of my design, and in which- Figure 1 represents the obverse side of the fem. Fig. 2 represents the reverse side.
The letter A designates a. fan crnnmented according to my design, which consists of an elevation of the United States Centennial Exposition Building, printed or otherwise produced upon the obverse side of the fan, (See Fig. 1,) the immediate foreground containing ligures of men and women, and the right nud left hand portions of the fen containing foliage and merchnndize. The reverse side, Fig. 2. contains the names of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, with representations of foliage and of articles pertaining to industrial pursuits, and at the central upper part a medallion likeness of Washington, surrounded by the notional ag and surmcunted by the words E Plnribus Unnni, the centennial dates 17 76-1S76, the representation of' an eagle, and of a. galaxy of sters.
The ornements end characters 1n ny bc vmiously colored; but I do not consider the colors an essentiel part ot' my design.
What 1 claim es new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The design for a fen composed of the representation, on one of its sides, of the United States Centennial Exposition building` substantially as herein shown Inid described.
2. The design for a. fan composed of the representation, on the reverse side, of the likeness of valshington, the national ting, and the centennial dates ].7761876,substantinlly as herein shown and described.
