UNITED STATES PATENT FFICE.

ALFRED O. SMITH, JR., OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO THE NEW YORK UITY ATTRITION MILL COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.

DESIGN FOR PAPER-WEIGHTS.

Speciiication forming part of Design No. 9,737, dated February 6, 1877; application filed J auuary 12, 1877.

' [Term of Patent 7 years] 4 To all whom it may concern J Be it known that I, ALFRED C. SMITH, Jr., of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented and designed a new and Improved Pattern of Paper- Weight, Ink or Match Safe, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making part of this speciication.

A is the base or stand upon which the whole rests, having on the sides of it the inscriptions New Process, 1876,,N. Y. City Atrrition Mills. B is a barre'l, in imitation of the flour-barrel used by the NEW YORK OITY ATTRITION MILL GOMTANY, and hasnthe following inscription on the heads of it, V.Trade Helnolina Mark, in the form in which it is used on the barrels of Hour manufactured and sold by the NEW Yom; CITY ATTRITION MILL COMPANY. U is a bag of wheat, having on it the` inscription hoicest Selected Wheat and D is a rooster, crowing.

The head of the barrel is made removable, so as to permit the barrel to be used as an inkstand or receptacle for matches and similar articles.

The barrel B, the bag C, and the rooster) are arranged on the base A, in such a manner as to give the rooster, which is apparently in the act of crowing, the eect ot' heralding abroad the success of the Hemolina Flour, the whole forming a. paperweight.

I do not claim the inscriptions upon the dilerent parts of my design; but

What Iclaim as my invention is A design for paper-weight or similar article, consisting of a barrel, bag, and perched rooster,` as described.
