Definitions
- the present invention relates to an electrophotographic toner composition.
- the copying speed tends to increase as the amount of information processed in recent years increases.
- the amount of heat transferred from the heat fixing roll is smaller than that in medium-speed copiers, and heat fixing is not possible because the amount of heat lost by paper cannot be recovered.
- the surface temperature of the roll drops significantly. For this reason, a toner composition which can be fixed with a lower calorific value and does not cause an offset phenomenon at the fixing temperature is desired.
- the weight average molecular weight Z is 3.5 to 40, and the number average molecular weight is 2 , 000 to 300, 000 resin to provide toner with good off-set resistance, or
- the use of a cross-linked resin as described in (1) broadens the fixing temperature range and reduces the offset phenomenon even at relatively high fixing temperatures. It is known how to obtain toner that does not occur.
- an electrophotographic toner composition capable of always providing a stable and high-quality image at a low calorific value fixing which cannot be solved by the conventional technology.
- the toner composition of the present invention has a low minimum fixing temperature, a wide non-offset area, and extremely good image characteristics, and has excellent properties as an electrophotographic toner composition. Have .
- the present inventors have thought that these problems can be solved by manufacturing a toner using a resin having a low melt viscosity and high strength, and have reached the present invention. .
- the present invention relates to 100 parts by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer (hereinafter, parts are by weight unless otherwise specified), or an ethylenically unsaturated monomer.
- a solution containing 0.01 to 30 parts of a divinyl compound, 0.01 to 30 parts of a solvent, and 0.01 to 10 parts of a polymerization initiator in a solution of 100 parts of the polymer and X parts of the solvent An electrophotographic toner composition containing a polymer obtained by continuous dropping or divided addition as a main component (where X + y and y are parts by weight and 2 parts by weight). 0 ⁇ X + y ⁇ 2 0 0, or 20 ⁇ y ⁇ 2 0 0).
- the amount of the divinyl compound is preferably from 0.01 to 30 parts, more preferably from 0.05 to 20 parts, per 1 D0 part of the ethylenically unsaturated monomer. Department is preferred. If the amount is less than 0.01 part, the resin strength is low, and the fixing property is deteriorated, and if the amount exceeds 30 parts, the resin viscosity becomes high and the low calorie fixing property is insufficient due to insufficient melting. Getting worse .
- the total amount of the solvent that is, X + y, or y is 2 G to 2 G parts by weight. If the amount of the solvent is less than 20 parts, the viscosity during the polymerization increases, and it becomes difficult to control the polymerization reaction. In addition, the molecular weight increases and the resin melts as a result. It becomes difficult to melt, and the low calorific value fixing property deteriorates. In addition, if the amount is more than 2 G parts, productivity will not be good.
- the amount of the polymerization initiator in the present invention is preferably from 0.01 to 10 parts.
- the polymerization initiator greatly affects the molecular weight of the resin, but if it is less than 0.01, the molecular weight and viscosity increase, making it difficult to control the reaction. In addition, the increased viscosity makes it unsuitable for toner for low-calorie fixing copiers. If the amount of the polymerization initiator is more than 10 parts, the molecular weight decreases and the offset resistance becomes poor. Further, when the resin strength is reduced, the fixing strength is lowered, and the fixing property is deteriorated.
- the ethylenically unsaturated monomer in the present invention includes, for example, methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, propizole acrylate, Butyl acrylate, octyl acrylate, cyclohexyl acrylate, lauric sole acrylate, stearyl acrylate , Benzyl acrylate, furfuryl acrylate, tetrahydrofuryl azolate, hydroxyshethyl acrylate, Esters of acrylic acid, such as hydroxybutyl acrylate, methyl dimethyl acrylate, methyl dimethyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, etc.
- Aromatic monomer such as vinyl toluene, ⁇ -methyl styrene, chlor styrene, styrene, dibutyl maleate, dioctyl maleate, Unsaturated dialkyl dialkyl esters such as dibutyl fumarate and dioctyl fumarate; vinyl esters such as vinyl acetate and propionate bule; and acrylic acid Acrylonitrile
- Nitrogen-containing vinyl monomers such as phenols, unsaturated carboxylic acids such as acrylinoleic acid, methacrylic acid, and caffeic acid, maleic acid, and maleic anhydride.
- Unsaturated dicarboxylic acids such as acid, fumaric acid, and itaconic acid, monomethisomale maleate, monoethyl maleate, monobutyl maleate , Monomethyl fumarate, monomethyl fumarate, monoethyl fumarate, monooctyl fumarate, monooctyl fumarate, etc.
- divinyl compound in the present invention a compound copolymerizable with the above-mentioned ethylenic unsaturated monomer can be used.
- divinylbenzene, divinylnaphthalene and the like can be used.
- Aromatic divinyl compounds such as these derivatives, (poly) ethylene glycol, (poly) ethylene glycol, and (poly) ethylene glycol Any aliphatic divinyl compound such as acrylate can be used.
